Any fans of antiquing?

Nice, barrons!

When’s your yard sale? :)

Do any of you antique buffs know of antique shows or good antique shops in the Carlisle, PA area and the Shenandoah Valley region? DH and I are taking a leisurely driving trip home from taking D to school in late August. We are fans of American majolica, art nouveau anything and mountain-y folk art/ceramics.

.

I look forward to the responses to your question, dg. Maybe I’ll meet you there :)

worrywart, I’ve been to Renninger’s many times. It’s a rambling, indoor maze of stalls selling everything from ephemera to glassware to old carousel horses. Renninger’s has really gone downhill since eBay came along, but the Extravaganza is lots of fun. The Extravaganza features dozens and dozens of outdoor vendors selling mostly what I call “junk”, but you’ll also find many treasures if you’re looking for “smalls.”

If you want furniture, you won’t find many decent pieces at either Renninger’s or the Extravaganza. The Black Angus has much nicer furniture–not low-end or high-end, and mostly 19th to early 20th century.

Have you ever been to Atlantique?

Virginia has many antique stores at all levels. There are several in a town north of C’Ville on US 29 at Ruckersville. In C’Ville there is a great high end store linked below and several other good ones.

For more general exploring and real finds there is a huge place in Lynchburg, Va

No, I haven’t. What’s that?

You’re describing the Renningers in Kutztown, right? I’ve been to Adamstown a few times. How are the two different? And the Black Angus, is that in Adamstown? (It’s been awhile since I’ve had time to pursue this passion so I’m a bit rusty.)

Sorry, worrywart! I was talking about Adamstown. We always go to the Extravaganza on Sunday after it’s moved to Adamstown. Many vendors probably elect not to participate on Sunday because it’s too much trouble to pack up their wares and move, so the Kutztown event is likely bigger and better. We’ve never been, though. I wasn’t thinking when I replied to you earlier. For all I knew, you could have been talking about Renninger’s in Mt. Dora, Florida!

We went to a Renninger’s Antique Show at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia a couple of years ago. It was a very good show, but so many people attended that you couldn’t walk in the aisles without being pushed and shoved. Needless to say, we didn’t go back the next year.

Atlantique is a HUGE antiques extravaganza that’s held twice a year in the Atlantic City Convention Center. It has high-quality exhibitors from all over the country. We used to buy Deldare, for example, and the only place we’ve ever found a vendor dealing exclusively in Deldare is Atlantique. Here’s a hint: If you attend on the last day of the show, we’ve found that vendors are willing to cut very good deals–probably because they don’t want to pack up so much inventory.

Yes, the Black Angus is in Adamstown.

Thanks for the details.

So anyone else planning to go to Brimfield next week?
