The latest hire at Rutgers in theory/composition is from…Columbia! The latest hire at MIT in music history is from Harvard. In other words, if you are going into this field with your eyes open, you must realize from the outset that competition is fierce for the handful of job openings each year. Of course, in addition, it is important to have presented papers at conferences and published articles.
