None of my family and friends in Atlanta want Amazon to come there.
I’m sure there are several backwards git off my yard, you whippersnappers types around here. The daily commute will be bad regardless of whether Amazon locates here or not.
I’m just asking some here not to drink the kool-aid. Promises are not realities.
The discussion here is one reason I could see Amazon going to one of the non-favorites in the list of 20: go somewhere that you will be welcomed and will make a bigger difference. Will DC or NYC even notice or care about Amazon coming there?
And I am not saying go to an area where absolutely every man, woman and child will welcome you will open arms. Such an area doesn’t exist. Just that it seems to me one consideration would be how significant of an impact will you make and how much you will be welcomed and by how many would be considered. At least as a factor.

By the numbers: 11.9%, for Atlanta; 11.2% tie between Chicago and New York City; 10.4% for Boston and 8.8% for Austin.

I’m all for Amazon coming to Georgia. Great quality of life for employees, still have affordable housing unlike D.C., NYC…(better weather too). Strong universities (Emory, G Tech, UGA and others) can provide no shortage of highly educated and qualified employees. Of course Delta’s hub in Atlanta at Hartsfield-Jackson (worlds busiest airport) with non stop flights 2 hours or less to 80% of the U.S. population is a big factor. Plus UPS is headquartered here, although I’ve read that Amazon is testing its own delivery and looking for alternate distribution. Atlanta area has to be in the final ten, if not three considered.

If Amazon actually buys UPS, and I am still undecided if that is a good decision, it would actually be great news for Fedex.
I don’t think Amazon is interested in buying UPS. They are trying to build there own delivery system - buying planes for an airline and having a network of cars and trucks to do the road delivery part.
It is one thing for Amazon to threaten to create its own delivery system and quite another to try and follow through, knowing that UPS and Fedex may stop delivering packages if they perceive Amazon as a direct threat.
Touchy situation there - such a big percentage of UPS business is tied up with Amazon - losing that business would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Without the Amazon business they can’t make money.
Of course, but if faced with an existential threat, UPS would have to fight back. And if UPS cuts off Amazon, there isn’t enough slack in the system for Amazon’s packages to get delivered by others. They are currently co-dependent.
And because UPS is a very well run company, it is not easy for Amazon to replicate what they have. Not only do they have the last mile distribution capability, they also have very efficient airline operations, a top-notch meteorology department, package tracking etc.
Overthrowing a well-run company like UPS is normally very difficult, unless there is a disruptive change that allows it. That disruptive change could be package delivery by autonomous vehicles, thereby getting by the last-mile distribution problem. But then Amazon would have to replicate everything else that UPS does exceedingly well.

As are TX sales taxes which between state and local are often 8.25%.
