So New York Headquarters could be out in recent articles… CHICAGO is back in play!
@Nrdsb4
I have a feeling he did just that in the text message.
@Nrdsb4 - lol!!!
Very funny. Good one.
“I order from Amazon on a regular basis and have never tipped a driver. I doubt that it is expected.”
How should I tip the drivers? Leave my money at the porch? I never see the drivers myself.
Last week Amazon dropped neighbor’s packages at my door. The neighbor had to ring my bell so that I allowed her to pick up her packages. She told me she was afraid that my video camera would report her as a thief.
@Nrdsb4 - the Daily News had a great cover about Mr. Pecker last summer when AMI had to go to federal court and promise to not commit any more crimes.
I wanted to say, do a google image search for Daily News and Pecker but let’s just say that some nasty images come up. Search instead for Daily News cover, August 24, 2018.
Well, some says it’s Amazon’s negotiating tactic. Apparently, he pulled a similar one in Seattle to force the city give up on homeless people tax. This threat may force NYC’s hand in Amazon’s favor. Politicians are no match against a shrewd business man.
The tip s for PrimeNow. Forbes says Amazon won’t change its policy. If you tip, have cash on hand.
I really wish they would locate in Southern Maine/NH. Logan and Manchester Airports, Portland a little farther away. Easy access to I-95 and other highways, an actual train to Boston, existing bus service to Logan, definitely near outdoor recreation (which they initially claimed as a criterion), near Portland, #1 foodie city, near Boston with all it has to offer, plenty of colleges and universities, etc, etc. And the area could use well-paying jobs.
Cramming themselves into Queens always seemed like a bad idea to me.
I don’t think Maine would give them all the incentives they would demand, though.
This got me thinking. Do Uber or Lyft count the tip I give the driver part of wage, too?
I think Amazon always wanted to be in NYC and DC. They chose that part of Queens because it is convenient to LaGuardia airport, which is being renovated. All the song and dance was so they could get public funds to help pay for their expansion. Amazon has always been good at that - for their own benefit only.
I also heard recently that part of the “search for HQ2” was designed to get information from many cities across the country. They were given lots of information from those city bids that is not even available to the public. For more, listen to the podcast “why is this happening” from January 22.

Wonder if they will move it to a different site or double down in VA.
Relocating a business to New York City never made any economic sense (for a business that is built on being the low cost provider), so not surprised he cut his losses.
Hope they don’t start the bidding war again…
Unbelievable. As a life long New Yorker, it pains me to say this, but NY is a dying state.
In its announcement, Amazon said that they would not. Instead, they’d add more jobs to NoVa and Nashville…
I think more jobs are coming to Nashville. I don’t blame them a bit for pulling out of NY. Amazon is a giant and didn’t need the headaches.
