<p>Roshke, thanks for the link to the kitchen pictures! My white floor looks just like that floor in the picture on the left. My cherry cabinets are slightly more reddish-brown than the ones in the picture. Thanks so much for posting that picture because that’s the kind of kitchen I want, but haven’t found many pictures of them to help me visualzie it. Thanks again to all of you who have offered your wonderful insights!! Now I do feel a lot more confident about what I’m doing!</p>
<p>I just picked up another door sample from my designer’s. It’s caramel color and looks pretty, too. I do like it almost as much as I like the cherry cabinet. I’d be okay going either way. My husband also feels either one would be fine with him. I’ve included the link for you to see the pictures. Please let me know which combination of cabinet & granite you think would look better in my kitchen. </p>

<p>We have a marble entry way. Even though I did the whole sealing thing, the tiles are getting very dull. I can’t seem to get them to shine and look polished. Anyone have any ideas?</p>

<p>I like the peacock green marble better. I like the lighter cabinets better personally, but I think the darker ones look better with the marble. The white tile looks awfully slippery. (Which is what I hate about my current white tile floor.) It seems whiter than I would like, but I agree with the others you can always change it out later if it bothers you. It looks fine with the walls.</p>
<p>I would like to see a cabinet that is darker than the caramel but not as red as the cherry. I believe that you need a “richer” color cabinet to mesh with the dark rich granite (either color will be nice). Check out these cabinet colors:

<p>I also live in Florida where the current flooring style in homes is either hardwood, saturnia (20 X 20 marble) or tile that “looks like marble”. I would not change the flooring unless you were going to upgrade to hardwood or saturnia.</p>
<p>Okay, this is bad, but I had a dream about your kitchen… and it looked lovely, and the tile was cool on my feet. The green granite was soothing for the eyes after the hot Florida sun.</p>

<p>I agree 100% with seiclan. Either granite is too dark to go well with the lighter cabinet. I think the darker cabinet is way too red. Because of the beigy nature of the floor and window treatments/accessories, I think you need to stay more in the brown tones with the cabinets, but they should be a darker, rich brown tone – not red.</p>
<p>I would go with the uba tuba granite. I could see getting sick of the peacock down the road and the uba tuba is much more neutral if you decided to change your colors/decor. </p>
<p>Do you get much natural light in your kitchen?</p>
<p>Going back to roshke’s post #39 with photo–those cherry cabinets looked great, I thought with the dark countertops and white floor–stunning actually. OP, what would you think of using cherry in that tone?</p>

<p>I just went back and looked over my old paperwork…my cabinets are the HONEY stained maple (see the link in post#46), my granite is uba tuba (and so are the backsplashes). All the kitchen appliances are black except the refridgerator (it is built in with the wood panels on it). I think it is warm and stunning.</p>
<p>seiclan – when I first looked at the color chart, my immediate choice was the honey with the uba tuba. great minds think alike.</p>
<p>To answer bethievt’s question in post #50, while I do like the kitchen in post #39, I probably won’t consider using that tone of cherry in my kitchen mainly because I think it would clash with my window treatment which I have no intention on replacing. I don’t want this kitchen project to snowball into a mega makeover of the ENTIRE great room that the kitchen, nook and family room constitute. If i were to go with a lighter color cabinet at all, I’m leaning toward the caramel colored cabinets posted in my pictures. </p>
<p>To Alumother: As an ex-Californian and now a Floridian, I do agree with you in that the caramel cabinet would definitely go better with the black/green Uba Tuba. It does blend well, esp. in a warm place like Florida. So, if I do end up choosing the caramel-colored cabinet, that’s the combination I would pick. However, I am kind of concerned that the caramel yellow would clash with the tan color in the kitchen window treatment whereas the reddish-brown cherry cabinet would contrast it nicely. As mentioned above, I am trying to limit my remodeling to the kitchen ONLY, so I’m trying to come up with something that woud tie EVERYTHING ( such as the dark green / almost black sofa in the familyroom & the bronze gold dinette set in the nook) together. </p>
<p>While the cherry cabinet may come across as too “stark” against the white floor, I think in that area, I’m aiming for “contrast” and not “harmony” because I figure my main focus of “blending” lies in tying together my sofa, dinette set via the black/dark green granite with the gold flecks (hence, the selection of Uba Tuba & Peacock Green). I’m not sure if this makes any sense or if I’m violating some cardinal rules in interior design, but anyway, that’s what’s going on in my mind.</p>
<p>I still have plenty of time to mull over this matter. I am not all that unhappy with my current kitchen to begin with and we are not remodeling for any specific reasons either. Just thought it might be neat to add some more storage space and update the kitchen at the same time. </p>
<p>Thanks again to all of you for putting up with my indecisions and sharing your opinions with me. DH & I are not very big risk-takers. If it all boils down to a nice split in the middle in regard to people’s opinions on these two choices,then I know either choice would be “safe”. If it’s unanimously one-sided, then I would know which one is the “riskier” choice. So, thanks again for your participation in our kitchen remodeling process!!</p>

<p>I’ve decided to go with the cherry cabinets and the Peacock Green granite. The cabinets will be delivered on 5/22, so I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that everything will turn out nicely. I’ll be putting in a black composite quartz sink. I’m hoping that I won’t have a hard time adjusting from my white & beige kitchen to this darker one. Although I’m not a fan of stainless appliances, I find myself settling for them after all. I actually prefer white appliances, but with cherry cabinets, black & stainless would go better, and I think black may make my kitchen even darker, so I had to pick the stainless.
The irony of doing all this kitchen upgrading is that while I’m spending more $$ on the so-called “upgraded appliances” with all the bells & whistles, according to the Consumer Reports, they are also more “repair prone” !! Sometimes I wonder if all this kitchen upgrading is even necessary or worthwhile. My old formica countertop is functional and very low maintenance and all my basic appliances do get the jobs done, even if they don’t have all the extra features. Being the practical person that I am, I just hope I won’t end up regretting going through all this hassle for nothing even though everyone claims that kitchen remodeling is a good investment since it increases the home’s resale value.</p>
<p>Ihave just found and just read this whole thread. I have a flooring comment. While the white tile might not be ideal … and this is debateable … i think I saw that the white tile runs through the adjacent rooms. If the kitchen tile is changed, the house is likely to look choppy. I would warm up with area rugs as needed.</p>
<p>And I think RODS final color scheme sounds wonderful.</p>

<p>I just went to breakfast at the hotel I’m staying at this weekend. Noticed the cherry style cabinetry in the lobby/breakfast room with the green (corian? formica? rounded edge treatment) countertop. The floor is a creamy white/beige …but the look is tied together with green marble style tiles interspersed with the white tiles and a green border. I have no idea if this can be retrofitted … i.e. pull out some tiles and replace with different color … but here is a case where the light floor is working very well with your color scheme.</p>

I’m not a big risk-taker so going from the “safe” neutral zone of white & beige to the cherry & green is quite “risky” to me. I also feel relieved & encouraged by dmd77’s dream about my new kitchen!
