My husband and I took our tandem bike down there on Wednesday. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day to spend in DC. Weather was perfect , everything was beautiful. First time biking in the city and it was so easy to get around. Can’t wait to do it again !

lololu

“S1 says he planned the trees just for me”

That’s one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard. What a wonderful son!

Next year. :)

He is in fact a wonderful son. He is working in DC, his “pay the rent” job while he looks for real work ( he’s a just graduated architect) so he has almost no money. So next week when we go to visit my big plans are the Cherry Blossoms and atrip to the grocery store where I will stock his cupboards. I had to bribe him to let me do that, but it’s really for my peace of mind.

Just drove by the Tidal Basin on my way back from a meeting. The blossoms are definitely coming out strong. They should be really nice this weekend and if not at peak approaching it. Depends on if this coolness today holds on a little longer.

Just came back from the Tidal Basin. It is spectacular! The trees are almost in full bloom & so are the crowds. If not peak, then certainly close to peak bloom.

I was there today also…absolutely gorgeous!

^^thumper, I wonder if we crossed paths.
Did you see Newt Gringrich & his wife, Calista, walking around the Tidal Basin too? He had the glazed expression of a man who had not had a full night’s sleep in 6 months. Her expression said, “Whose good idea was THIS?” And the Secret Service detail’s dour expressions said, “If you try to touch this candidate, we will wrestle you to the ground!”

Oh brother…no we missed Newt. We were looking at the trees…not the people!

We were admiring the trees, too, but it was kinda hard to ignore Newt when we squeezed past him & his entourage on a narrow bridge. At least we didn’t try to shake his hand or it could have gotten ugly with the Secret Service. :D

Shucks–just was there & left on 3/7. No cherry blossoms then. When I was there in 2009, we were fortunate that some were blooming because of weird weather. Will have to tell S to look at them for us, since he lives there now. Maybe we’ll go next year & visit him during the season. :)

Spotted a lizard today, but no newts. Close to peak…

Saw them this morning on way out of town after visiting son in DC. They were spectacular!

Heading there tomorrow evening. Hope to catch the early train and see the trees first thing Friday before it gets too crowded.
