My D attended the program last summer and LOVED it. She stays in contact with her fellow classmates and made life long friends (which she is running into at auditions now for college)
She had a high school dance teacher and a English/theater teacher sumit her recommendations…it did not have to be counselor last year. She spent a good deal of time on her paper. She was not a super-student…about 3.7 something GPA. Her PSAT’s were fairly strong but not over the roof. She has a fairly solid resume with many lead roles in various theaters, lots of training in all three areas: vocal, dance and acting. There were a WIDE variety of students accepted, most were VERY talented, but not all had long resumes or equal training in all areas. They were ALL very good students, intellectual, inquisitive, creative people–deep thinkers. I think it would be wise to really work on your essay and perhaps have it proofread by a teacher. Best of luck, it was an amazing experience for my D and even if she doesn’t attend NYU for college, she gained so much including the knowledge and certainty that this is what she wants to pursue for her career. Break a leg!
