I’m thinking about applying to McGill…it gets me out of the country legally if there’s a draft.

not any more, america has a treaty with canada which allows them to bring you back

Damn! I guess I’m of to UIB (University of Iraq at Baghdad)

How is life at a Candian University for Americans? What is your life like as compared to life in the states?

To be perfectly honest, it’s not terribly different to be in university in Canada than in the USA, I’ve found. Obviously there are little things like your math teachers make reference to the “zed axis”, the political sentiment will be very left (but hey, isn’t it that way at most US universities too?), and you get the cool feeling of being an “international” student while not really being one You will hear a lot about a TV show called “talking to Americans”…you will learn to adore Tim Hortons. And it gets cold, real cold. But really, the differences for a university student aren’t huge.

Do they have Starbucks in Canada?

Yes, but many, many more Tim Hortons.

I miss Tim Hortons

I am sure many people in other nations know little about U.S schools too, so its just not people in the U.S. I am sure if I ask most Candians or Europeans “What kind of school is UCSF” I would get blank stares because most would have never heard of the schoo. Or if I ask them about the “California Institute of Technology” most would probably think it is a vocational school. Even though these are amoung the best research universities in the world in their field.

hehe we aren’t the only ignorant ones

There are two starbucks relatively close to McGill…one in Chapters, a couple blocks away, and the other in…i think it’s in Place Montreal Trust, one of the big malls. Not too hard to get too.

Of course, the densitiy of starbucks decreases the further you get from Seattle thus UBC will have more starbucks than Montreal. LOL

To be perfectly honest, as a proud Seattlite, I dearly dearly miss good expresso drinks.

uhhh, im a bloody new yorker, excuse the strange language that will be, but im hi as a kite, there is a star bucks everywhere. i used to hang out at astor, st marks(the village) when i was 12, i went back to just stroll and think and i swear in a three block radius there were 4. at union square there were 3. now the union square i can understand, but jesus, they are everywhere, though im hopefully going to mcgill, and in my many visits, i saw no starbucks, and to be in a major metropolis without seeing one was absolutely awesome. also at grandcentral there are about 5 in one building, sorry about that rant, just had to

I miss Tim Bits

Harp27. I am a canadian and NEVER heard about a tv show called “talking to americans” what exactly are you talking about?
