I hit instan menopause after a hysterctomy. They told me things might be dry and skin will change, a few other items. Then OMG my entire scalp decided to become a snow storm. My face turned to the leather of a baseball mitt left out in the rain. I bought one of those foam eggcrate pads for the bed to sponge up the night sweats. got a new one every few months. I tried Black Cohosh and one formula worked and when the store stopped carrying that , I never found a replacement ( I think they fake the ingredients) I tried soy but is inconsistet. So my doctor put me on 1 mg of ESTRODIAL. Then I gained 6 poinds in less than 3 months. So I cut the dose myself in half after talking with girls who are friends (DD says not to use the word girlfriends anymore) I lost the extra weight. I take a lose dose aspirin to keep the blood thin and lower risk. My scalp is not falling off like a ski slope, and my skin is softer . So I take the risk, but then again I live in a city that is erupting with gang violence…it’s a risk I will take for another 6 months or so.

That info about the veterinary effects of pets licking the creams off is fascinating; thanks for the link.

Anyone remember Margaret Mead on Johnny Carson saying, when asked why she was able to do so much work at such an advanced age, said, “Post Menopausal Vigor!!! I never would have been able to do all this in my 40s.”

A friend of mine takes a daily morning swim which helps for most of the day. Anyone tried rhubarb root extract? Seems to work and also helps the digestive tract according to information I found on the internet.

It’s helpful to read through ideas on this thread.

Funny, I just got off the phone with someone who called herself a customer service rep - a very frustrating discussion on returning an item. I got angry. And wham…here comes a hot flash. So I guess I know one of my triggers now. I will need to practice my deep breathing :)

Never heard about rhubarb extract. But I did find stuff about a magnet that the ladies in the UK are raving about. Called Lady Care. I think I’ve totally lost it but I ordered it yesterday. It wasn’t cheap. One caution…you wear this thing in your undies and some ladies have reported sticking to their shopping “trolley”. LOL.

^^Hahahah. Be sure and let us know how it works! If we see anyone with her knickers stuck to a shopping trolley, we’ll know who it is.

BTW, I’ve lost it, too. I just ordered a Sabona magnetic bracelet to (supposedly) relieve arthritis pain. If you see someone with her arm stuck to a shopping trolley, that’s me.

OMG I am Lolling after looking at the Lady Care site. Toneranger, did you really order that? You go girl! We practice Mula Bandha (same basic thing as kegel) [Mula Bandha - Root Lock](How to Use Mula Bandha in Yoga) and udiyana bandha in my yoga classes. Work those perineal muscles! Also strengthens the inner muscles supporting the spine - good for the low back. Works the uterine and ovarian area internally, too. Sort of like squeezing a sponge.

Bumping this thread. Got that LadyCare magnet in the mail, and after trying a month of supplements (fish oil, E, etc) that did NOTHING, I gave this magnet thingy a try last week. Amazing. Down to one or two mild flashes per day. Sleeping much better. And no problems at Wegman’s lol…

Hugcheck, I do yoga too…love it but did nothing for this particular problem :)

Wo cool! Thanks for reporting back. What brand did you choose, and did you ummmmm have any shopping cart issues lol? Ummmmmmm would you actually wear your “decorations” outside the house?

Wearing it 24 hrs. No problems with shopping carts. Small/discreet enough that it doesn’t show as long as I’m not wearing spandex leggings with a sports bra. Those ladies in the UK are on to something!! I’m ready to quit my job and be a manufacturers rep (well, maybe next year).

Now, I will be traveling on business Sunday night and I will NOT have it on during my journey through the full body scanner. Hopefully, I won’t go into withdrawal and start flashing on the plane!

ROFL! Reportesvoussievousplais (sp?). And from another thread, the consesnsus seems to be bring tampons when flying! Oy!

You sold me, toneranger…just ordered the LadyCare and will provide feedback later. If this thing works for me, I know a gazillion women who’d give it a try. You mentioned manufacturer’s reps…is the company actually hiring sales people in the US?

I can’t believe that we have to deal with teenagers, elderly parents AND hot flashes all at the same time. Makes me yearn for the good old days of colicky babies! I hadn’t heard of the magnet thing. My symptoms have been HORRIBLE since I quit HRT about 6 weeks ago. I’m seriously thinking of giving it a try. Any idea how it works?

Has anyone tried sage supplements/tea? I saw Dr. Oz the other day, and he recommended it. Although I’m not doing too badly right now, I ordered some sage tea. I drink tea all the time anyway, so why not?

I must recommend buying pj’s made from modal…look for it on the label. It’s a fiber derived from bamboo and it is a hundred times better than cotton when it comes to sudden ‘warm spells’. They even are making sheets out of it now. It dries super-fast and is very lightweight. Makes a huge difference to the comfort level in the night. I find the pj’s…frequently on sale…at Target or Kohl’s (Apt. 9) and the sheets at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Really no idea how the magnet thingy works. Can’t believe it though. Amazing. I thought it was expensive when I bought it but I would pay much more. Not sure if it works for all but this is NOT a placebo for me. As I mentioned, bought lots of supplements and they did nothing after a month. Would love to hear reports of others experiences. No idea if they’re hiring but they SHOULD…big untapped market here in the US!

Bumping this thread again…any others with feedback on the LadyCare magnet??

yeah, I am curious too!

How did I miss this thread the first time around? Haven’t read all the posts, but am very intrigued by this Lady Care magnet thing. Feedback please!

OK…I’m the lady who tried the lady care magnet. Seemed to completely erase my hot flashes. Wore it for 3 months and then stopped. Cycle disrupted…heavy flow. But then back to normal and I haven’t had a hot flash in a 5 months. Very strange…but I’ll take it!

Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (like Paxil and Prozac) used off label are highly effective in the treatment hot flashes.

They also help with the depression and irritability affecting menopausal women.
