I wouldn’t worry too much since the later it gets in April, the more money tends to be available. If you want Peabody, just keep holding out.
Yea, we are also getting a bit anxious. We didn’t have to send in a physical form. They pointed us to the online form that was literally 250 words or less to appeal. We submitted that (and got a reference number) on April 7th. Now April 16th and crickets. I emailed financial aid Monday and again today to ask status. Still crickets.
Have my son letting department head know.
So, when he wrote the letter, did he ask for a specific amount or just left it open? If he requested an amount, how much did he ask for before they settled on 36/50/55k? Different school for us, but not sure if we should ask for a modest amount or ask for a little higher assuming they will offer less.
Different school as well from my D. She requested an additional $5K over the offer and was given an additional $3K. She indicated in her appeal that she was paying for school herself. I think asking a specific amount is good. Aim a little high but not outrageous.
He didn’t ask for a specific amount initially. I think he said he needed to get as close to his other offers as possible because he did not intent to incur a large debt for grad school. He had 2 full tuition offers both with paid TA positions - these were good programs but not as competitive as Peabody. He also had a very good offer from JSOM, which for trumpet, would be on par with Peabody (It would have covered all but 12K). There was a place on the application to put the other offers you received.
The initial 36K was before any appeals so that was their initial offer.
The 50 K - was after the 36 K offer and the first appeal - He presented the other offers and stated he needed to take finances into his decision and couldn’t swing Peabody with his other offers unless he could get more scholarship$.
The 55 - K was the second appeal and he pretty much just stated that he’d really like to go there but he really needed to close the financial gap further. He stated in that appeal that if they could match the full tuition offers of the other two programs, he commit immediately. But, they just gave him another 5K, not full. He knew the full was unlikely but he figured he’d at least be blunt and ask. After that, he didn’t feel comfortable appealing again, and he really did want to go there, so he decided to commit with that offer.
Congratulations on a great negotiation process!!
My daughter, viola will also be attending Peabody sarting in fall. Peabody’s viola department is top notch. I alwsys say, go where a good teacher is at!
Congratulations to your daughter as well;0) In the end, yes, it was the teacher for him. Since my son is going for grad school, we will be visiting in May so he can start apartment shopping. I’m very excited for him. I think he is really going to love it there.
