geezz…it says he has 16.9 more inches to go…it’s going to be a long road…

According to those predictors, based on my parents’ heights, I should have been 5’ 7 1/2" if I’d been a boy, and 5’ 2 1/2" if I’d been a girl. I’m 5’ 2 1/2". Make of that what you will!

On the other hand, they predicted my son’s height perfectly. Unfortunately, that’s only 5’ 2". (My ex is only 4’ 9".) So, I knew it wasn’t very likely to happen (especially because he was always tiny), but I hoped so much that he’d be at least a little taller than me, and it made me sad for him that it didn’t turn out that way. He doesn’t complain about it, but I know it kind of upsets him sometimes, too. That’s something like the bottom 1% or 2% for men in this country, and life isn’t always so easy for men that short.

Clearly you were meant to be a girl. :)

I’d never have guessed you were that short. You seem taller.

I’m not even sure what that means! How does someone seem to be a particular height on the Internet?

S is taller than both me and his father. I think my height was a little stunted because of childhood illnesses, and there were taller people on my mother’s side of the family.

I think the growth charts provided by the pediatrician would give you a pretty accurate indication, depending on the percentile curve your child is tracking at. I just checked one for son, & he is pretty much on the money for his age and percentile.

My older D will be interesting. I am short, H is about 6’ 0", which puts him a little over the 75th percentile; D is tracking at about the 98th percentile. At ten years old, she is already my height!

The other ones we used that just use parent height were not as accurate as this one below which takes into account parent height but also other measures which allow one to account for where a child is in their personal growth curve (where in time their growth spurt is…and that varies hugely across children…for some its at 10, for others its 15).

As but one example: oldest daughter was always 25th percentile on the doctor’s growth chart…but then went thruogh a growth spurt late and now is now at 80th percentile and taller than both parents. And this chart predicted that when the others put her between us two parents in height.

I was told by my pediatrician ( when my 22 and 20 yr old girls were toddlers ) that if you take their height in inches at age 2 and double that , that would be their adult height…it wasn’t accurate…D1 was supposed to be 5’ 2" and is 5’5" …D2 was suppposed to be 5’0" and is 5’4"
Still wondering about almost 13 yr old who is taller now than they were at the same age ! And she definately outgrows clothing quickly…her arms and legs especially !!

We were told the same thing, and they were right on the mark for all 3 of our children. I remember being floored when we did it at that age, thinking no way for all of them. DH is 5’10 3/4, I am 5’5 1/2. They said DD would be 5’1… my response that’s crazy between the 2 of us she will have to be at least 5’4…she is 5/1 1/2 at 17,. DS1 would be 5’9, again crazy, he should be at least 5’10, all of the men on both sides, except for Bullets brother are 5’10- 6’1… he is 5’9 on the mark at 19. DS2 would be 6’4, he is 15 and 6’2. Again I thought it was insane because at that time they had 2 of our 3 being relatively short.

Had various height predictors for various kids. None worked, except as a ballpark. We knew in advance that no one would be a giant. That’s about it. S1 and S2 were supposed to be about 5’10. They are 5’9 and 5’7. D “would be lucky if she ever hit 5 foot” and she is 5’3.

(By the way, all the guys in our family have big feet! Doesn’t match height at all.)

If I double my son’s height at 2 yrs old he will be 5’ 9.2" . That sounds awesome to me…hope it works. Lets revive this thread in two years and find out!

Doubled sons height at age 2 and it is right on for both. One son is 5’11 and the other is only 5’6.

I just looked up my kids’ heights at age 2. D’s is right on the money (she’s a shade over 5’7"), and at 5’10" S is one inch shorter than predicted…but at 17 he’s still growing. He didn’t really start to shoot up until he was 15, much later than most of his friends.

I was curious, so I dug out the baby books:

S1 was 32.75" at age two. should have been 5’5.5", is 5’9
S2 was 34 " - should have been 5’8, is nearly 5’7
D was 32" - should be 5’4, is 5’3.

S2 and D are pretty close. S1 was way off.

DD was supposed to be 6’ and she’s only 5’8" and probably finished growing at 19.
DS was supposed to be 6’3" and is 6’2.5", but at 17.5 he could still have another half inch (or more, I suppose) in him.

This height thing has always been a mystery to me, when it comes to my youngest, who’s now 15. He is 5’8", which is slightly above average for his age. All his life he’s been 50th percentile in height, but I swear his feet and hands are 99% percentile. His birthparents are 5’9" and 6’4", so I keep thinking he may grow at some point. The charts would say he won’t, but the orthopaedic doctor predicts he will. Also, the basketball coach says, based on his experience, the size of his feet and lack of hair on his legs are the biggest indication of future growth.

Double at 2 and mine would have been well over 6’. Growth plate check at 16.5-17 (for jaw surgery) suggested that “the plates haven’t even started to close. She’s going to be 6’3” at least." 1 year later she hadn’t budged from 5’10 and 3/4. Age 22? Still 5’10 and 3/4".

This is actually a test to see who kept up their baby books!
S1, age 2 – 36", now 5’10.5" (age 19)
S2, age 2 – 36.5", now 6’3.5" (turns 18 next mo.)

S1 is still growing, about 1/2" per year consistently since the big growth spurt when he was 13. S2 grew a foot in 18 months in junior high, and has grown about 1.5" since. We think he is about done. He’d better be – it’s hard enough finding size 15 shoes, much less something even larger!

The height definitely comes from my side of the family.

Didn’t work for my kids either!
According to the MD’s “fortune telling chart”:
My eldest son: should have been 6’2" IS 5’10 1/2"
My daughter: shoud have been 5’9" IS 5’6"
My Youngest Son: should have been 6’ IS 6’2 1/2" and STILL GROWING at age 15 1/2!!!
