Anyone following the Pistorius Trial

I agree with anxiousmom but Pistorious has an excellent attorney who is doing a good job of poking holes in the testimony of those who have testified so far. It will be interesting to see what the forensic evidence is and how incriminating it is. The Pistorius attorney keeps hinting that they have expert witnesses and evidence backing the story of Pistorious. This isn’t a done deal yet.

This is so sad. I find his story utterly ridiculous. even if we were to believe that due to the level of violence he initially thought it was an intruder, and hadn’t yet checked to see if Reeva was in the bed, wouldn’t he call her name to be sure it ISN’T her before shooting. isn’t the most likely scenario when you hear someone in the bathroom that it’s your girlfriend?? c’mon. it just doesn’t pass the common sense test.

You might not notice if your partner was asleep in bed if you were barely awake & just getting up to go pee, but if you had adrenaline running because you thought someone had broken in, you would likely check to make sure your partner was safe, before you went to investigate.

I’m not watching because it’s very difficult to convict with only circumstantial evidence. Despite the imagery of CSI.

I think Pistorius will testify. That means his credibility can be assessed. If he is telling the truth acquit. If it is lying convict. Not much circumstantial evidence about that.

It’s very interesting to see the contrasts in trial procedures. The lawyers have often sounded as though they are testifying, much of which wouldn’t be permitted in North American courtrooms.

I don’t think I have seen this occur before. Strategy or reality?

^^^^^One has to wonder.

I saw a picture of him that made him look realistically sick, but I don’t trust this guy. He might just be a very good actor. Plus, one article I read mentioned 'retching sounds". which made me wonder…

Even if guilty, it could still be legitimate vomiting. Hard to stomach when you pump lead into your GF even if it was intentional.

I agree with romani that vomiting doesn’t imply guilt or innocence. If he’s guilty, he’s got to be regretting what he did.

The thing I have a hard time with is the “premeditated” charge. Seems to me he did it in the heat of an argument. It’s difficult to see this as planned.

Nerves can make you puke & he certainly has a lot to be nervous about.

The other thing that came out today was that Oscar was using extra lethal bullets that exploded in the body. She didn’t have a chance.

Oy that was an image I didn’t need.

Talking heads were saying that if the bullet angles show Oscar was standing on his blades, he is pretty much toast. He stated earlier he was on his stumps. If the court concludes he is liar, he will be in trouble.

Today, the coroner said Steenkamp must have eaten within 2 hours of her death. Unfortunately, for Pistorius, that contradicts his story that they went to bed at 10:00 PM.

I don’t know if anyone is following the Pistorius trial but for the last couple of days he has been undergoing a brutal cross examination by the prosecutor. Last night I watched it on BBC, which is streaming it live. On the West Coast, it is live between 2:00 to 7:00 AM.

It is better drama than anything I have seen on TV lately. The exchange between Nel and Pistorius is mesmerizing. The only problem other than it happening in the middle of the night is that there are frequent tea breaks. The South Africans like their tea.

the whole situation is just horrible. The tea breaks are painfully ironically dignified.

I think Pistorius is truly remorseful for the death of his girlfriend. But I also think that her death was a result of a violent argument in which he lost control and shot her. I think she was fully dressed because she was about to walk out the door on him. His ego couldn’t take that, and he went for the gun. Despite his success, I have always thought he had a huge chip on his shoulder. IMO he was not secure enough to handle a relationship with the likes of Steenkamp.
