Anyone Got A River Cruise Recommendation?

Just booked a river cruise on Uniworld. Flying into Prague for a few days, then boarding the boat in Nuremberg and cruising to Vienna. In just one year, there are NOW many more river cruise reviews.

I was just going to ask you, which one are you going to do? And then I realized your original post was about a year old. So I guess you get to do both! Lucky you. Please let us know how it goes. I really would love to go on a river cruise, but am worried I’ll be surrounded by just 80 somethings. Not that it’s a problem, just would like a little diversity. I suspect I might be wrong about this.

I love cruise critic. We “met” many people online about a year ago, and it was so fun to actually meet and hang out with people we had already met online. Usually we know nobody on a cruise, and are on our own. But it was very cool to meet all these people, do excursions with them and actually feel like we knew people onboard. Someone should organize a cc cruise, that would be fun!

busdriver, Probably not going to “meet” too many people online on Cruise Critic’s Roll Call for our June 2015 river cruise since there will only be 114 other passengers on our boat. I was really disappointed when we missed our connection to Rome week before last and missed the Meet and Greet, opting instead to return home.

Well, you never know. You might meet a few! Either way, with so few people onboard, seems that you could get to know many just because it’s a small group. Wow, how do you plan so far ahead? That is a long time to wait for a cruise, I’d be going crazy, but I guess it’s something to look forward to. How was your Med cruise?

Med cruise? Here’s the condensed version:

Holland America changed our departure time out of SFO, 2 days before our trip. Instead of 1 hour 40 minutes layover at O’Hare we had just 40 minutes. Had we known this upfront, would not have accepted this. With the bad weather in the Midwest on 6/19, we were delayed getting into Chicago and missed our flight to Rome. HAL rebooked us but new flight wasn’t until next day and with multiple stops so we opted OUT. We would basically have been catching up with our ship in Tunisia on Day 4. Insurance reimbursed us 90%. HAL offered us nothing, not even a small credit voucher off a future cruise, so we took our business elsewhere and will no longer use them or any of their affiliates.

Wow, that’s awful. I can’t believe they changed your departure time like that. I will never book a flight through a cruise line…I have to have tons of backups and come in a day early to feel comfortable. I would write them an irate letter and least get something for your trouble. Except since you won’t sail with them, I guess that would be useless anyways. What a crappy experience.
