Anyone have insight on differences between Stanford and Duke?

You know, for a rising sophomore who is pre-med and seems to hang out on CC 24/7, you have a lot of “friends” for every conceivable occasion which helps portray Duke in a positive light for prospective students and their parents. I am calling shenanigans:</p>

Why do you think Columbia offers far more opportunities than Duke? This couldn’t be farther from the truth. I (along with my friends I have here) turned down Columbia for Duke and couldn’t be happier.

Going to Wharton won’t result in a significant difference in job placement and certainly should not dictate whether you’d end up going to business school or not. Pick the school you want to go to because you like the environment, or because you fit there, etc. All these schools you’re looking at will get you to the same place pretty much. I have plenty pf friends who turned down Wharton for Duke because they enjoyed the Duke environment better.

My friends who turned down British universities (Oxbridge, Trinity) told me their decision was largely motivated by the fact that the education was so focused and traditional that they didn’t feel like they’d be able to reap the incredible benefits of Duke’s interdisciplinary education.

Many of my international friends who are math majors chose it over “higher ranked” schools becuase they understood that the strength of the department wasn’t fairly reflected in rankings.

But Duke definitely has invested itsef in those fields and extracurricularly, even has a student run cable television show, student news, etc. Two of my friends were funded by Duke to go to a foriegn country and film a documentary!

Interestingly enough, when I was talking to some of my international friends (Hong Kong, China, Korea, England), they tell me that they didn’t consider Berkeley after getting into Duke.

Just from my circle of friends, I know CS or ECE majors going to Facebook, Microsoft and Google.

If you want a job in the SF area, going to Duke is not going to stop you. In fact, I have many friends who are graduating this year who are going to be working at consulting firms or other high-tech firms in silicon valley.

I didn’t attend LSRW, but I have many, many friends who did (which goes to show that those who attend don’t just hang out with other attendees).

<p>I never claimed this. I’ve stated more than once that I haven’t even started college yet; so I don’t know what the heck you’re talking about.</p>
