That is a horrid photo @deb922. Also, sorry about your D’s accident. I hope she is ok.
Yikes @deb922
Northeast NJ here, it’s pretty bad with flooding, lots of stranded cars. Husband and son manned the wetvacs and pool pumps in the basement. Dorms at Rutgers had to be evacuated. Our towns rescue boats were used (usually used for Passaic River rescues, but were used in town). State of emergency.
Cajun Navy was a huge help to us during Ike. They were running a ferry for days to help us get in and out of our subdivision! They did great work here in Houston!
Ida’s wrath came through Southeastern PA last night, lots of flooding in and around Philadelphia today, which may get worse as rivers continue to crest. 452 water rescues so far in our county. Tornado came through a neighborhood about 2 miles from our home, damage to the local high school and township building along with numerous homes. One woman died from a tree falling into her home. We lost power for a few hours and were a bit freaked by the numerous tornado emergency alerts coming into our phones, but otherwise ok. Sunny, cool and gorgeous today!
I think we must be neighbors! Our house is undamaged but we’re still without power.
Also in northeastern New Jersey. We are thankfully ok, but many people in our town were flooded, and there were many water rescues of people stuck in their cars. Second day of school was cancelled. Praying for all who were impacted by this storm.
Southeastern PA got hit. All area schools are closed, my town’s business district is flooded, for most of the day all the roads were barricaded and the local bridges were overflowing.
If you know the 676 Vine St Expressway, it was totally under water. See photo
Also in North Jersey–we’re okay, but the stories of destruction and tragedy between flooding and tornadoes around the state are horrendous.
In southeastern PA. Feeling incredibly lucky we didn’t have any flooding or power loss in our area despite numerous tornado and flash flood warnings. Philly area and West of us were hit much harder…just terrible for all those affected!
Coatesville, PA
I’m in Michigan. We play in a golf league on Thursdays that quite a few electric company linemen play in. Did not see any there last night. Husband said many of them are traveling to spots around the country restoring power.
Now, no one feel sorry for these lineman. They are being well compensated for their work. But it’s physically hard, lots of overtime and there are in weather no one wants to be in.
We had storms around our state a month or so ago. I asked one how many days in a row he worked 16 hour days (the maximum they can work). He said 9.
Say some thanks to the crew. They are coming from around the country and are working long hot days.
