Anyone looking forward to Thursday's live The Sound of Music?

Costume-wise—Maria made 7 kids clothes overnight out of drapes that fit pretty well but couldn’t manage a wedding dress or a decent honeymoon outfit?

So, it feels like piling on at this point but no-one has mentioned Carrie Underwood’s hair. The stiffness bothered me.

I don’t see this becoming a classic annual thing. It’s lacking magic. Why don’t people watch the movie with the next generation of kids? That’s what we did.

Oh, I definitely noticed her hair. I thought it was a wig at first. (TV is relatively high up in my dorm room). I had to scramble up close to the screen and study it. It looked plastered on and coated in sealant.

I wish it would become an annual thing. Elvis Duran and the Morning Show were asking their listeners if they should continue on with this. They should and I hope they do.

I haven’t read all of the posts but anyone who watched Carrie Underwood on American Idol is not at all surprised by her lack of acting ability. She has a beautiful voice but IMO not very expressive. It was very apparent during her AI season. She is beautiful but is not an actor and never will be.

I was not fond of the costumes. Would Georg’s wife look like Heidi? Would someone living in a convent have Heidi hair? I thought Carrie looked like an American Girl Doll at times and at other times, she looked too matronly. I thought she looked pregnant in a couple of outfits because they were so tight across the tummy. Yes, actingmt, the wigs were not good.

Whatever may be said about Underwood’s acting, she is a beautiful woman who was ill-served by those costumes. Especially the honeymoon suit. She doesn’t have much of a defined waistline, so why that skirt? It made her look thick-waisted, and showed a tummy that probably in real life is virtually non-existent.

And the costume designer couldn’t have bothered to make the bustline of the wedding dress fit her? The dress was ugly, but at least it could have been an ugly dress that fit, without wrinkles.

I wasn’t a fan of the turquoise suit either. It looked like a refugee from another show. The color was wrong, and so was the fabric.

Would love to have more great musicals on TV for masses instead of more televised competitions and other blather. Think this SOM beats many of the things which pass for TV programming these days, but of course doesn’t do justice to the movie.

I thought the singing was fine. I was more bothered by the “captain” as the person last night I would not call a manly/man…he just felt alittle soft, but alot of young actors appear that way to me these days…perhaps it’s because I remember the film. Plus I thought the captain was supposed to be much older than Maria and you didn’t feel that because the person cast as the Captain didn’t have a physical presence.

Speaking of Porgy and Bess, none other than Clamma Dale sang with our choir last month. Or rather, we sang with her. You could have knocked me over with a feather when someone told me who this woman was who was visiting town and was going to sing with us. I think I was the only person who knew who she was. People were literally stunned when she opened her mouth and sang.

He’s about 45 yrs old so not a young actor and quite a bit older than Maria. I don’t think the makeup used was flattering at all. He looked quite pasty. He’s a very manly man type in many of his other ventures.

I thought the performance was delightful and I saw not only the world premier of SOM when I was a wee child in New Haven, but on Broadway, too. I always thought the movie version was “wrong” - I liked it but it wasn’t what SOM was to me.

Lol at the thought of Stephen Moyer being a young actor. :)

Carrie Underwood isn’t even a young actress.

The next one should be Annie. Anything with kids in the cast with household name recognition will draw crowds…and it’s a fun show.

Another oldie that is fun and has kids…The Music Man.

I just hope they don’t do Oklahoma. I know it’s the basis for modern musical theater…but not my favorite.

Prefer the movie.

I saw Jeff Goldblum do the Music Man with the Pittsburgh CLO a few years ago. Who knew the dude had musical theater chops?

I want to see The King and I.

You want to see kids. This musical is full of 'em!

Pls. add Pippin to the request list.

*Rivers belong where they can ramble. Eagles belong where they can fly. I’ve got to be where my spirit can run free. Gotta find my corner, ooh, of the sky *

Yes, I even knew all the lyrics to the songs max and baroness sang. D and H were amazed.

There is a TV version of Pippin already…and it is very good.

I was just watching the Matthew Broderick Music Man on DVD. Nobody can top Robert Preston for me, but I liked Kristin Chenoweth as Marian, maybe better than Shirley Jones, and whoever played Marian’s mother gave an interesting interpretation.
