Somehow, belting out lyrics like “Buy every ticket. Board every train…” just doesn’t have the punch on Broadway that “Climb Every Mountain” did.

Also, I read somewhere today that Maria was raised as an atheist and socialist. She and the captain had three children together after they were married.

Don’t know if anyone saw that Eleanor Parker died this morning after complications from pneumonia, at the age of 91. She played the baroness in the movie.

lol. They sing “Down by the Station” instead. Down by the station Early in the morning … Chug chug puff puff Off we go.

Thanks for the info Jonri!

sings and tap dances See the little pufferbellies all in a row!

I guess they’re looking for a vehicle for Miley Cyrus, who I prefer to Carrie Underwood. Miley and Selena Gomez in Wicked? A vehicle for Hayden Panettiere? And then there’s Taylor Swift. She seems to be a decent actress but singing live for a couple of hours will be brutal unless they have really mastered real time auto tuning. Leighton Meester? Gwyneth Paltrow?

Please don’t bring that name up again. Thank you.

Oh, that hurts! I’m sure many other people didn’t recognize that those “unknowns” had 6 Tony awards among them. The truth is that a lot of the population has zero familiarity with Broadway theater, and it’s that lack of knowledge that made the true theater “unknowns”, Underwood and Moyer, seem palatable. But for those of us who do appreciate musical theater, the casting of those two was like having Eli Manning pitch in the 7th game of the World Series (with football fans who don’t follow baseball commenting about that unknown player he shared the field with, David Ortiz). Oh, it hurts.

So now that we know NBC will be doing this again and attributes the success of SOM to Carrie Underwood, surely some of our better snarkers will have suggestions for next year’s production and associated stunt casting. I’ll start by pointing out that Miley Cyrus’ hair is already the right color for her to play Evita Peron. Any other ideas?

I second Miley!

In the club, high of purp’ with some shade on!

I would love for Vin Diesel to play the king in The King and I.

Didn’t Beyonce try this with Dreamgirls? Jennifer Hudson got the Oscar.

Another vote for Miley!

@Istttt Eh…no…the other one. The K one…shudders

That could be interesting depending on the co-star. I loved Kris Kristofferson.

I am glad NBC will be doing another live production!!!

ISTtTT- I can assure you that Carrie is very experienced with the world of Twitter, I hope you weren’t serious!

You do know that the Streisand/Kristofferson version was a remake itself, right? Judy Garland and James Mason?

Peter Pan would be an obvious choice: great score, definitely “family” entertainment, lots of kids, lots of colorful characters. I said up-thread that South Pacific could be a vehicle for Hayden Panatierre. Beyonce was charming in that Austin Powers movie years ago, and we know she can dance! The Wiz…except that cynically I doubt they would do a black-themed show. Not that Beyonce would have to be restricted to such shows: there are plenty of things where pan-racial casting would be fine. (Guys and Dolls, for example.) I wonder if Anna Kendrick is well known enough now…she could do pretty much any ingenue part, I think.

Consolation. Yes, I know but given what some on his thread don’t know it’s a good question. lol. I’m thinking Abba Kendrick won’t pull in the numbers. Hayden either. Miley has the hair for Peter Pan!

I vote for King and I. Kevin Costner could be the King. He sure showed his stuff as Robin Hood. ;( Miley could be Anna.

Well, NBC took a risk bringing back a live Musical, added a current “name” hoping to reduce that risk, and was rewarded with a ratings smash. This guarantees they will do this again. And as MommaJ suggested, they will more than likely once again look for a “name” for the starring role for any production they will look to also broadcast live.

So, be on the lookout for next year’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof”, featuring Blake Shelton in the role of Tevye.

Other works in re-production within the Halls of NBC:

-Vin Diesel in “The King and I” as suggested by Niquii, but they bring a whole new twist to the production’s iconic moment when he and Anna (played by Amanda Bynes in an attempt to resurrect her career) are attacked by Ninja’s, and Vin fights them all off choreographed to the orchestra playing “Shall We Dance”.

“My Fair Lady”, featuring Tina Fey as Eliza, and Will Ferrell as Professor Higgins

“Yeezus Christ Superstar” starring Kanye West. Enough said. But the show is ruined when Taylor Swift interrupts the Crucifixion scene to say “Imma let you finish, but the original cast had the best version of Christ’s death of all time!”

I agree Miley should get a show, but it should be “Cabaret”, with Justin Beiber in the Joel Grey Host role. She breaks out the foam finger again for the title song.

And in a serious “yes, do this” suggestion: Michele Lea in “Funny Girl”.

^^^Or even Lea Michele in Funny Girl. ;)
