Anyone Turn Down Yale (or other comparable schools) for a lower ranked school?

Yeah, but the simple but painful truth is, few people will turn down Harvard Business School for MIT-Sloan. MIT-Sloan has a lot of students who wanted to go to HBS but didn’t get in, or didn’t even apply because they didn’t think they would get in. Even most Sloanies will admit that, overall, Sloan is probably not as good of an MBA school as HBS is.

I know one guy who goes to the Sloan MBA program…and is ****ed off that he’s there. Why? Because his wife goes to HBS right now, and he obviously wanted to go to HBS too to be with her. Of course, it was never a consideration for both of them to go to Sloan. Once she got into HBS, she was going there. Nor is this an isolated incident. Plenty of Sloan MBA students look longingly across the river at where HBS is. You can’t really see HBS from Sloan (too far away and lots of obstructions) but they know where HBS would be if they could see it, and would rather be there if they could.

The Sloan LFM program can and does attract a lot of people away from HBS. But Sloan by itself? Not so much.
