I used for insomnia for a few months… I think I got relaxed easier but staying asleep is my issue.
@kelsmom, what ailment are you treating your cat for?
Our cat is 19.5 years old, and she has joint issues. We started putting the CBD oil on her food, and it really seems to help. Maybe it’s just our imaginations, but we have seen a real difference. We use Secrets of Hemp Pet Drops. They have it for both dogs and cats. The lab my S works in is no longer allowed to test hemp products due to our state’s new laws since recreational marijuana was legalized (no hemp testing in labs that test marijuana, for some reason) - but he did test this brand before the ban, and he felt it was a good one.
DD uses CBD on her little dog who goes absolutely neurotic during a thunderstorm. It is amazing how calm it makes him.
My 93 year old mother takes drops each night at bed time, recently she was off them for a week when I was away and as soon as I came back she asked for her “calm drops,” so I guess they do work. It’s pretty pricey, I was hoping to prove placebo effect by skipping them for that week.
I sometimes think about suggesting CDB cremes or whatever for my 85 year old moms aches and pains - arthritis and stuff. But I think she will think she is taking “drugs” and will turn it down. I’m lucky that she takes her blood pressure/cholesterol meds because she has always been not a fan of meds in general (just takes 1/2 or takes less than the recommended dosage or period of dosage).
Did you have to convince elderly relatives that this is not the same as smoking pot?! (again, her thinking)
My daughter’s mother-in-law is the straightest of straight arrows – a retired Catholic school administrator who has never inhaled anything. She has rheumatoid arthritis, and she is absolutely gaga over everything CBD, creams, oils, whatever. She absolutely believes it is significantly improving her quality of life, reducing pain and other side effects and restoring range of motion.
@abasket - CBD is no longer a drug if the hemp used to make it is grown in compliance with the Farm Bill! Mitch sez so. ![]()

I have read that there can be interactions with CBD and cumoudin, so I would be wary of using it if the person is on blood thinners. I don’t know if there is a proven link, but I would suggest talking to a doctor to be on the safe side.
I would suggest CBD to my MIL, who has myriad health complaints that are primarily just complaints. She’s a sucker for a good placebo / snake oil product. But I hate to get sucked into her health complaints.
Oh @BunsenBurner I know that - but her brain WON’T compute that!!! She won’t even take ibuprofen for 48 hours straight when she needs it!
Uw-I’ve tried CBD from cbdistillery and purekana
I’ve tried it, it does nothing. I’ve tried it in multiple forms and strengths and it does nothing. The major problem with CBD stuff is that it’s completely unregulated.
I had foot surgery 18 months ago and still experiencing healing aches and pains. I started rubbing High strength cream on my toes and was amazed how it took the pain away. For the cream, it lasted about 24 hours. I tried the candy and that lasted a few days.
I’m a believer. A friend has nerve damage to his hand and his hands shakes. He started the tincture and it has calmed it, as that is systemic.
I think you need to experiment with with oils, creams and ingestables to see what works. I think the independent stores have much higher strength than the drugstores, which I like.
Ha! My mother absolutely does not know she is using “pot” and would have a fit if she did. One time she was in the car with me when I parked a bit away, but went into the shop and got her drops; for about a month she was disappointed in me for using drugs, happy that I was out of prison, etc. I never told her she is the one using drugs. My sister wanted to explain all the details to her, I explained to sis that our mother has dementia, there is no reason to risk explanations that may cause her to stop using something that helps her. She has dementia, she is incompetent to make decisions, so I am not going to risk her getting stuck on the ‘pot’ aspect and her '70s anti-hippie attitude.
Wish I could post a picture. A local video store/pizza chain place here - who even goes to a video store anymore? - has the message on their out front billboard “CDB products sold here!” Is anyone seriously trusting a video store to sell meds?! “Pick up your fav Xbox game, a large pepperoni pizza and a tube of CDB cream!”
This is part of the problem. There are good companies with some research but also like anyone can sell this. We were enudated with companies at our last major medical conference. The 5 companies all stated they did research and showed it. All stated they grew their own stuff etc etc. All claimed great results especially for pain. I have like mini samples I am going to try since I just had medical meniscus surgery. Plus other aches and pains. But who knows…
We are considering to dispense for pain creams but will see.
