<p>Ugh! Looks like D better get it. She worked at the zoo last summer and is employed at a pet store this summer.</p>
<p>Usually when you have to have one to be around animals, it is to protect the animals. They don’t want you to give TB to the monkeys. :)</p>
<p>My son had to get one for his job too.</p>
<p>D is doing a clinical rotation in a hospital and they always require a TB test.</p>
<p>The main reason I’m writing is that she ran into timing issues at her student health center so she had to find another location to get it that would work with her very long hours. Apparently Walgreens and CVS mini clinics do them now. Cheap, fast, and very accomodating hours. It was a surprise to both of us that these clinics are doing these.
Turned out to be a great option for her.</p>
<p>Just had a physical tonight and asked whether I needed to get a TB test since I work in a public courthouse (lots of immigrants and prisoners). My doctor said that, here in central California, she has mostly seen public school teachers have positive tests because they work closely (ie, bending over the desk close) with children who may travel frequently to Mexico to visit family or have Mexican family members who travel here. I wonder if the pediatricians are picking it up among the children as well.</p>
<p>Tufts only requires it if you have visited certain countries or are otherwise at risk. My kids have been tested at least once in my memory.</p>
