for synthesis, my class never really practiced that essay. Is it fine if my bodies were like “Mr. XYZ states that jlkajdsflkajdf. That’s why Mrs.ABC Concludes kjalds;fklajdf” or was i supposed to primarily make it my own analysis?
@College123college, what? The synthesis essay is essentially a research paper where you make an argument based off sources and facts?
My MC was hard but essays were super easy.
Not bad overall. For the MC, the first passage was the hardest to read (not impossible though), the middle two were easy/average, and the last one was easy to read but hard to answer. For the essays, I took the longest on the synthesis and think I did well, the rhetorical analysis one was the easiest, and I just ran out of time on the create your own argument one (I didn’t have a conclusion but I had a strong historical example and personal anecdote). My last essay is going to be my worst, but that’s almost expected. I like to keep my hopes down and not predict my score, but I know I passed
It was okay for me.
The hardest part was the multiple choice, in particular the second passage. Even though the passage was easy to understand I felt as though the questions were difficult. Aside from that, I thought the passages were okay, though the easiest one for me was the third one.
As for the essays, ironically I feel as though I did best on the rhetorical analysis and worst on the argumentative essay, which I didn’t expect since I always did best on the latter and worst on the former. There was just so much I wrote about for the argumentative essay, but I feel as though my writing wasn’t very good. My essays for the first and third question were about three pages, while my essay for the second question was about two-and-a-half pages.
Multiple choice was much better than I expected. The passages were easy to read, but there were a few tricky questions.
I think synthesis was my best one, but I also wrote a LOT for argument (made it to the 4th page). I’m not sure about rhetorical analysis though. I feel like there wasn’t much to analyze other than the main obvious ones. Overall though, I’m pretty confident I got a 5.
I screwed up with time management for the mult choice- I spent too much time on the other passages and panicked a bit when i only had 10 min left for the last passage= I ended up putting a straight row of C’s for the last 4-5 questions and semi-guessing for some other ones that I wasn’t sure about – looking back, 10 min should have been enough time to read through the passage and answer most of the easier/more straightforward questions. instead, I was dumb and decided to panic and skip directly to the questions and refer back to the passage which took more time
writing was okay- I did pretty well on synthesis and rhetorical analysis - I wrote about 4 1/2 pages for each, but sort of ran out of time for the argumentative- only wrote about 2 pages and the argument wasn’t really coherent
what did you all write about for the reagan rhetorical analysis? my teacher always stresses that there is a hidden meaning or ontological theme to every writing, but i couldn’t seem to find one that wasn’t obvious. like that reagan epitomized american values and what not. i wrote about how she established ethos, used parallel antithetical construction to highight how reagan was unique, and used light and dark diction to show how he was a positive force
yeah I would say I touched on the same topics as you Dartmouth. For this particular essay, I don’t feel like there was much else to talk about especially when talking about hidden themes.
I enjoyed taking this exam. The timing was just right and the essays were alright.
Guys im freaking out on my rhetorical essay! I ran out of time for the rhetorical analysis, like i had my intro and first body paragraph developed with an incomplete second body paragraph and a one sentence conclusion. What score do you think I would get for an unfinished essay like this? Like a 3 or 4?
SOMEONE HELP
I ran out of time and only used 2 examples (1960s civil rights movement and the scarlet letter) on the argument essay. i also had a closing paragraph. however i think that both my topics were well developed (but who knows what college board will think). Will I get a lot of points taken off for only having 2 examples?!
Did anyone else run out of time on the last passage? I was doing so well on everything else but i ran out of time on the last passage. I skimmed it and tried to answer questions but 8 of them I think I had to just randomly fill in. Anyone else have this problem?
Alright so, I’m pretty sure my essays were in the 7-9 range, only problem is that I had to guess on like 10 MC questions. Is it still possible to get a 5?
@ro2400 @nycgirl000 it is based on development of argument. It your essay was a page to 1 1/2 page long then the length shouldnt cause a lower score. Ro2400 i think you’ll get a 3/4, and nycgirl you should get a 6 or around there if your argument was well developed. its easier to get a high score with unfinish arguments than unfinished rhetorical analyses. @1601er if you didnt get any other multiple choice wrong besides those 10, then you will be fine. its hard to ascetain that though. you need like a B on the multiple choice, and 44/54 puts you at an 82.
thank you @Dartmouth_21
That’s what happened to me too @1601er
It’s okay to write the essays out of order right? I did the rhetorical, then argument, and last the synthesis. I did number them all correctly…so I should be fine right? Lol I’m freaking out, I know I did well on the essays and I’d hate to get penalized for something so trivial
@swim1128 you’re completely fine!!
thanks dartmouth!!!
