AP scores never hurt your chances into admission. If you get a 2, big deal. That means you won’t get college credit.

can’t you cancel your score? does the colleges see that?

Well they can clearly see that I took the class, so it must make it obvious that something is missing if I don’t report a test score.

not neccessarily, people don’t have to take the test if they take the final. in my school, some people take the ap test to exempt the school final…in other words, they buy their grades, but a lot of people don’t bother if they know that they’ll fail

I would suggest you reread TokenAdult’s informative first post - particularly the second paragraph where the Harvard adcom states they prefer to see all the AP scores.

Thanks for the voice of reason Token.

How do they sway administrators and just how important are they (as opposed to SAT’s, GPA, rank, etc)?

How important are they for say Cornell, Whitman and UW?

Sorry if I sound like a typical CCer here, but a 3 would be a turnoff to Cornell. They want 4s and 5s, they want to see that you’re willing to do what it takes to go above what’s required, especially for a college-level class. It’s a big deal there to do well on the exams

For Whitman and UW, they just want to see that you’re challenging yourself. A 3 would suffice here. The fact that you took AP classes in the first place is pretty much good enough for them.

Of course, SAT/II scores are more important.

Since you’re apparently applying to UW too…I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind…

I can’t say fully but here’s a way how mediocre AP scores can taint one’s application. At a school with a supposed good reputation in my area, there are many AP courses offered. However, the students don’t score a good number of 4s and 5s. This has led my HYP alma mater to downgrade how rigorous they view the teaching ability at this school. Anecdotally, I heard that one of this school’s AP english teacher’s recommendation was full of grammatical errors – not good, eh?

AP scores are a reflection of 1 years worth of work, they show how you have retained and prepared for this “final” exam. They are hugely curved- to get a 5 you can usually miss loads - so anyone that is applying to a school that asks for them or a top 10 should make sure that they are honest and report all of there scores. Ommission is a form of lying and you would be much better to list a poor score and then explain your reasons. That’s my opinion anyhow.

How do we send AP scores?
Do I have to send them in now? or do I wait until I take 2009’s AP tests?
Thank you! :)

This is a question that’s been bugging me…when, if ever, do I have to send AP Scores? Do I send them after being admitted and selecting a college to confirm them, or do I send them at the same time as SAT/ACT scores?

You send the scores after being admitted, when you need them for credit and/or placement.

BTW, test takers should remember to put their social security numbers on the AP sheet. That is what College Board uses to identify the file for you over multiple years. If the SSN is missing, they will create separate accounts and you will have to figure out why your school did not receive a report of all your scores.

Are AP scores included in the SAT score report or do we have to send them seperately? Can they see them aside from our self-reporting on the common app? so can i just self-report them?

AP scores aren’t included, but you don’t have to send them unless you enroll. I’m pretty sure they can’t be seen aside from the self-reporting. So yup, just self-report :)

bump. plz, anyone know?

Whoa there! You send AP scores in MAY, after you’ve taken whatever AP tests you’re taking in senior year… to my knowledge, they don’t factor into admissions. Colleges just use them to give you advanced standing or something like that.

Are AP scores included in the SAT score report
No
or do we have to send them seperately?
Yes
Can they see them aside from our self-reporting on the common app?
Only if you contact the collegeboard-AP office and request that they be sent
so can i just self-report them?
Yes
“to my knowledge, they don’t factor into admissions.”
at the top tier colleges they MAY factor in to admissions, so if you have a LOT of hi AP scores [4-5] and are applying to highly selective colleges, then it can’t hurt to have you scores sent.

thank you guys all so much!

Question: for Rice, UChic, Stanford, Cornell, USC, and WashU should I send AP scores right now or after I enroll? I got all 5’s on all my AP exams but I think my counselor already put that in her rec.
