AP Trevor tweet about cancelling AP tests for a ring of cheaters - ??

I know the computer science A exam permits the use of code editors online and online text books. There’s a lot of leeway as long as you aren’t getting help via phone or chatroom.

The test is designed to see how well you apply the knowledge; it isn’t a vocabulary test. So if you’re eating up time searching for definitions, you may be going down the wrong thought path.

Personally - and I know everyone is different - I would rather see kids with submission troubles have a choice to keep their score, but with a notation that they took X minutes of extra time to submit (no assigning of blame). Let the college make a determination. If the student prefers to retake, that, or a full refund with no score should be two more choices.

For my son, and most of the cases I read about, it was not a case of submitting late; they were not able to submit at all. DS actually finished quite early and had loads of time and tried various ways but was never able to submit.

@Groundwork2022 - Another great and logical solution CB will never allow!

@Mwfan1921 I don’t read that as internet usage is explicitly prohibited. In fact, in one of their tips CB specifically noted that internet searches are typically less helpful than class notes.

FWIW - In my view, the CB prohibited students from receiving and providing aid, as well as plagiarizing online sources, but didn’t prohibit searches.

It seems an internet search is prohibited because that would be receiving aid, based on how I read this sentence:

“Students are not permitted to incorporate work which is not their own and students are not permitted to provide or receive aid in any kind from anyone, in-person, online or mobile.”

I also agree with others that googling terms may not be helpful to test takers.

D20 took the Physics C on Monday and the Calc BC yesterday. Both times, she was unable to upload 1 of the 2 questions. Very frustrating for her! She has both Econ tests next week and is stressed about the possibility of it happening again.

D21 has the APES test next Monday and is dreading the submission process.

@Mwfan1921 While the using internet is not prohibited, it is highly discouraged by College Board. The use of internet is allowed for defining terms and looking up basic information. The meaning of that sentence that you brought up is that students may not use the written work of others and pass it off as their own or communicate with others while they are taking the test.

@Groundwork2022 Trevor tweeted yesterday that if you forget the ID it shouldn’t be a problem when it comes to scoring. Just makes it a bit harder on their end.

@cstp28 From what we have seen, those that have problems submitting for some reason are having problems with all of their exams; those that are able to submit, can submit for all. This is what makes the lack of customer service by CB so aggravating. They seem to be happy that it is working for most so they do not care to bother figuring out what is wrong. The key question will be if the retest works…since CB seems to be doing nothing about this, it is very concerning.

D is taking APUSH soon, and I just found out her book is at school. So much for open book!

While I want her to do well, this test really shouldn’t count for college credit for her, because the teachers only taught through WW2; and nothing beyond that; they just focused on the test the last few months. The APush test only goes through WW2. She’s missed out on 80 years present history. It really is AP lite.

Oh gosh, that is awful.

I guess another solution CB should offer would be to post an email address where kids could email in their responses, say within 10 minutes of the 5 minute upload period ending. The emails would be time and date stamped, so CB would be able to verify submission time.

Is there another computer in the house your daughter could use? Make sure she has Windows updated, etc. etc.?

My DD will flip out if this happens.

We know several students who couldn’t upload their answers. My son ran into the don’t reload problem. Q2 would not load, circle of death for 5 full minutes and he knew he wasn’t suppose to refresh, but what exactly are you suppose to do when you’ve lost 1/4 of your allotted time for the question? He refreshed and it popped up and he answered it. If it created some other error oh well.

My DS could not get his Euro Exam to upload in time yesterday. 3 of his friends in his Euro class had the same issue. I don’t know if this was everyone trying to submit at the same time or what, but clearly there is a problem with the design of the AP exams in the virtual environment and possibly students not used to testing in that type of environment. It remains to be seen if these kids will be allowed to retake the exam. My DS needs the credit to replace TWO core history requirements at his college. Ugh. So much work, studying, anxiety, etc for potentially nothing. It,s not as if he/they didn’t try or complete the exam? Does anyone know if we are entitle to a refund if they refuse him a retake? I don’t have the psychic energy to research this right now.

@BarbaraCruz My D seemed to think that the AP teachers get to see the student answers, but didn’t know at what point. You might check with the AP teacher (or have S check with teacher) to see if/when the AP teacher sees the student’s work and if the AP teacher would also have access to the question.

@BarbaraCruz Teachers should receive a copy of their students’ submitted work. When, I don’t know. Contact your son’s teacher to see if you could get a copy. I know in previous years they release the FRQs to teachers a few days after the exam.

I think I saw on the AP Trevor Packer site that the AP teachers would get questions/see student answers on May 26?
