Oh, nice question. I haven’t reviewed late-nineteenth century, yet, so I don’t remember the top three… only the easy bottom ones:

the grapes of wrath - John Steinbeck
uncle tom’s cabin - Harriet Beecher Stowe
common sense - Thomas Payne

book by…sinclair? no…Riis! Jacob that displayed urban poverty. Riis was a muckraker, I think.

What was the major southern cash crop in the late 1800s?

upton sinclair -the jungle
jacob riis - how the other half lives

ok and lastly betty friedan wrote the feminine mystique

betty friedan, about suburban housewives asking “is this all there is?”

steinbeck, hardships of okies with the dustbowl and migration to ca looking for work

harriet beecher stowe, evils of slavery

thomas paine, pamphlet convincing ppl to support revolution against britain

What was the major southern cash crop in the late 1800s?

cotton?

before that there were tobacco and rice

I wonder what the major cash crop is now…if there is a major cash crop…

mmm, weed.

what was the teapot dome scandal?

“mmm, weed.”
…the future of america…summed up in 2 words

Teapot Dome Scandal
During Warren G.Harding’s presidency. The oil was supposed to go to the US Naval Oil Reserves. In 1922, Secretary of Interior Albert Fall (of New Mexico), a Harding appointee at the suggestion of Attorney Daugherty, illegally conveyed the rights to the oil to Sinclair of Sinclair Oil without competitive bidding. Bad mistake.

Doheny and Sinclair were both fined $100,000; Fall was sentenced to prison, making him the first Presidential cabinet member to go to prison for his actions in office.

Well how about Sugar… it was grown mainly in the carribeans and the South Carolina…

what was the shortest term ever served by a president? (since we did the longest)

33 days by Benjamin Harrison. Killed himself by giving a 2 hr long speech in the cold and getting pnuemonia. See…good with the numbers…not the facts…lol
