the singular form of criteria is criterion…sorry…I’m probably being annoying…I’m kind of OCD…

Was the quota act just something that said we will allow this many german immigrants, this many italian, etc…?

Yeah sort of…it was in the 1920’s when anti-immigrant sentiment was huge…
it limited immigration from Europe to 150,000 and banned immigration of Asians.

Jackson introduced both nominating conventions and the spoils system. What were they?

The spoils system, also known as the rotation of officeholders, involved Jackson taking out members of the federal government and replacing them with people of his own party. But the people he replaced them with were usually poorly educated, and didn’t know what the hell they were doing.

Nominating conventions actually became popular before Jackson was elected, but he still sorta took credit for them. Instead of private, closed caucuses of state legislatures nominating candidates for president, ordinary voters could go and vote for who they wanted to nominate as candidate for president. This allowed the system to be more democratic.

Question: What were the advantages/disadvantages of the North and South during the Civil War?

sry about the criterion thing…my computer actualy fixed that mistake but I thought it sounded too weird, so I kept criteria. :)

Northern advantages (opposite = southern disads): ECONOMY, railroads, foreign recognition thus far anyway, though that was threatened in the middle of the war, superior navy, way more people - way more white ppl

Southern advantages: umm…only thing I can think of…superior generals/army leaders

North-more transportation-trains etc-so more access to the west (I don’t actually know if this helped the Union). Also greater textile industry (I think).

South-greater agriculture industry

Advantages of North and South

I won’t go in detail, but I’ll list briefly of the ones that come to my mind.

North: Factories/industries for more war supplies, larger population for armies.

South: Better generals/leadership, better reason to fight, hometurf advantage, only had to fight a defensive war.

C’mon guys, we need more questions! I’m getting restless… need more history!!

What was the Taft-Hartley Act?

What was the reason for Bacon’s Rebellion?

hometurf advantage…only had to fight defensive war…those are good…I should have remembered them…hehe…

here’s a biggie…
Background Causes of the Civil War! Go! (there are like 12 million…lol)

Bay of Pigs was when JFK aided a rebel insurgency to overthrow Castro led by Che Gueverra(i think). JFK didn’t want to be directly involved so he just sent them in and they got massacred by bombers and Kennedy couldn’t help. It was an utter disaster and made us look like pansies.

Bacon’s Rebellion:
Nathaniel Bacon wanted Governor Berkeley (the pompous rich…bleep) to send an army to protect civilians in Virginia from attacking Indians. When Berekley refused because he was caught up in his little rich political circle I guess…(which Bacon had wanted to be a part of actually)…Bacon decided to take troops there himself. Disobeying authority caused Berekley to do a lot of crazy stuff…like hangings, right?

lets break down the civil war

The Taft-Hartley act was basically something to counteract the Wagner Act. It placed restrictions of Unions.

The reason for Bacon’s rebellion was that he and others felt that only the rich gentry could have any say in government, and that those who had a lower hierarchical rank had no say. He wanted to change that.

^yeah…why do I fail at being articulate? lol…that’s exactly what I said about Bacon…except…you said it better…

What did the Sherman Anti-trust act do?

taft-hartley act

It was during truman. It curbed the power of unions. I think it had the 90 day cooling off period and unions could not prevent companies from only hiring union persons, but still allowed the forced joinging of the union of new employees.

lets break down the cicil war

What was the reason for Bacon’s Rebellion?

Awesome, I know this one. This was when a bunch of people got angry at the new royal governor of Virginia (I forgot the name, fill me in) wouldn’t let the townspeople kill any more Indians, in the 1700s. So Nathaniel Bacon went and decided to shoot some Indians, and he staged a rebellion, getting a lot of other farmers in on it too. But then the rebellion died out after a while, partly because the British brought troops over to stifle it, and also because Bacon died of either dysentary or malaria. After he died, a lot of the people who had participated were hanged.
