Apple watch

No, but you do have to have at least an IPHONE 5.

I think it’s iPhone 5 or higher. So at least an iPhone 5. Small detail.

The apple watch is mostly an iPhone selling device because of what I can tell, you need an iPhone to use it.
I also have small wrists & if I was going to wear a watch, it would have to be water proof.
I am not an early adopter. I’ve been using Apple hardware for 25 yrs, but I didn’t buy an iPhone until the
Iphone4. ( ok, I also waited for CDMA for Verizon)
I also laughed at the iPad name but bought one when they came out with the Retina display. ( which I still use, 3 yrs later)
I have my iPhone configured so that only messages from my kids or husband come through immediately.
I would wear a watch for that reason, but I won’t get one til version 3s or so, although there may be another " must have" by then!

So how does the watch work? I admit, I am a late adopter. Does it use bluetooth functionality? Call me paranoid, but I dont like the idea of wearing a wireless device on my wrist, actually anywhere on my body. Ive never used a bluetooth headset for that very reason. I know it may be small, but anytime I can reduce radiation I try.

It connects to your iPhone using bluetooth.

I’m mostly an early adopter type, and I tried on and preordered one (sport model) yesterday. True confessions: mostly because I think it would look cool and be fun to play with. I’ve always worn a watch, so this doesn’t feel so much like a “new” thing to me. Also, DH has this “no devices at the table” rule mostly for the kids, but the rule is tough for me to adhere to-- mainly when we argue over something that could be looked up in 30 seconds, but I don’t think the Watch will help with that.

The order said mine would arrive the week of June 22, and it got here yesterday. I’m liking it.

DH’s arrived at his office today.I cant wait to see it! IT was his fathers day present from the boys.

My daughter mentioned wanting one for Christmas, any reviews?

Yesterday I was at the Tmobile store and noticed the guy helping us had one. I asked him if he liked it, and he said he did, but really just used it as a watch and alarm. He said if he gets a text it’s easy enough to just click it on an read it rather than dig his phone out of his pocket.

I thought it looked really clunky for a watch.

I don’t plan on getting one right now. I have a Fitbit Charge and I have to say I do like being able to see notifications on my wrist. I can see the caller ID pop up on the screen and can tell if it is a family call or if it is something that can wait until later.

I have one and I like it a lot. But, I would not recommend it for someone who wouldn’t likely wear a watch even if it wasn’t an Apple Watch. There are a lot of people, especially young people, who haven’t worn a watch in years because of cell phones. And, I think it would be an adjustment for them with not a whole lot of benefit. I’ve worn a watch most of my life, and they have been fairly clunky digital watches for the last decade or so.

The things I like about my Apple Watch are:

I can see the next event or two on my default watch screen. I have Google calendars for myself, two kids, and two school districts, plus some other things. So, my calendar is pretty complex, but the Watch presents a fairly good view when I tap the one or two next events. (I have Google Calendar set to sync with Apple Calendar.)

I can glance at the watch to see who the text is from, even if I’m driving. And I can “Hey Siri, read my new text” into the watch while driving.

The tapping thing the watch does on your wrist is more clear than a phone vibrating in your pocket. I used to pull the phone out a lot to see if I had gotten a text, but it was just a phantom vibration. With the watch, it’s pretty clear, and I don’t get false negatives.

I get a few other notifications on my watch, like from Facebook and CNN. Those don’t tap my wrist like texts, but it’s quick to read them when I want to check notifications.

I like being able to see the current temperature on my wrist and tapping that gives me a quick weather summary for the day and week.

It’s quick to set timers, alarms, and reminders with Siri and the watch. While I’m driving, I can say, “Remind me when I get home to …” and it does. You can do the same thing with the iPhone, of course, but I don’t like to pick up and handle the phone while driving.

I have taken phone calls on my wrist when my phone was in the house and I was outside or when I couldn’t find the phone on short notice. The sound quality isn’t great, but it’s OK.

She was thinking this or fitbit. I have a fitbit that I use to track and make sure I’m up and at em all day. She is not really a watch wearer and that looks so big to me. She’s a iPhone user but really not a techno geek. I think I’ll get her the fitbit and see how she likes that first. She is a gym rat and walks a lot and likes to track calories, steps, activity, etc
