Applied too late?

see the news release. I know this is an internal report, but PSU would be very foolhardy to say this if it is untrue.

Penn State attracts strong cohort for summer/fall of 2013
Academic quality of applicant pool remains steady and high; paid accepts up by 4 percent

[Penn State attracts strong cohort for summer/fall of 2013 | Penn State University](<a href=“Page Not Found | Penn State.”>Penn State attracts strong cohort for summer/fall of 2013 | Penn State University)

As I wrote in another post on the subject, a 9% decrease could be misleading. If PSU lost predominantly “why not PSU” applicants while holding tight to “i’m really interested in PSU” this drop is meaningless. The increased yield suggests this might have happened. Also, clearly the quality did not drop significantly as some have predicted

Xtremepower- It’s hard to base conclusions on posts of people who, by the very nature of posting on the subject, are average/marginal applicants. Then you only hear about the few successes that get in with lower than 25% SATs. those who are rejected do not come back and post.
Perhaps you can take comfort in knowing your acceptance was not influenced by a plummeting pool of applicants

With that said. Did the negative press hurt applications? Probably, amy be certainly. Is it the disaster people here have been predicting, certainly not. PSU will go on. This did not affect the academics or the students at the school. Corporate recruiters spoke load and clear with their pocketbooks- they put their money where their mouth is. They showed up in higher numbers this year.
