Applying for AP Classes

Signature of someone in the department of the class you’re interested in taking.

I like how my school does it. For AP English Lit. if you took AP English Language you only need to have had a B or better and your english teacher sign an application.
For kids who weren’t in AP English in their junior year it is a lot more difficult and they have to take a test, have teacher rec., and they also look at GPA and standardized testing.
For Calc AB you need to have taken honors Math Analysis(Precalc) and have your teacher sign off. My math teacher is stingy and doesn’t sign for people who have anything lower than As and sometimes for B+s, but never for B-s.

any subject with A- = AP

Anyone can take an AP at my school. The only thing is that if they were not recommended for it, they can’t drop it.

We have to apply to every AP course; the application has to be given to the teacher who teaches it. You must get it signed by the attendance office (absences/tardies), the current teacher in that subject (grade, recommendation), parent signature, your signature, and an essay saying why you want to be in the class.

Also for AP classes at my school, you cannot drop or transfer out of an AP class without the principal’s consent.

At our school, if you want to take an AP course, the guidance counsellor rings up the teacher who currently teaches you in the subject and asks them for their recommendation (verbally, when you’re in the counsellor’s office). If the teacher thinks you’re good enough, you’re through. I’m not sure what happens if the teachers don’t think you can cope, although that is probably not a deal-breaker in itself seeing as there are some completely clueless people in APUSH.

We don’t have any kind of system. We “get” teacher reccomendations, but those don’t really matter. Basically, you can take any class you want as long as you fulfill the requirements. My school is trying to get everyone to take atleast one AP class by the time they graduate.

At our school there are no such requirements. The only firewalls we have are guidance counselors, but they prove to be ineffective.

We just have to get signatures for honors/AP and our 2nd + year of Foreign Language.
For AP sciences though we have to fill out an application. You can’t have a math or science grade below a B and the teacher teaching the class has to sign as well as parents.

whitesox24… that’s funny!!! I like that

AP English- you technically need to write an essay, but nobody has ever been denied.

AP Calc AB- I think a B or better in pre-calc.
BC- A B or better in AB.

The other APs have no requirements.

At my school, you have to take a test that’s sort of like a pre AP, and you have to score at least a 3 on it plus do the summer work.

In my school you just need to meet a certain standard and then you get approved. What sucks though is that once we’re approved we get to fill in our own sheets and basically anyone can lie.

There is one girl in my AP US History class who answered on a quiz “the divine rights of king”, rather than manifest destiny. I do not recall in my knowledge of US History an American king :P

I know you must have teacher recommedations. And an “A” average in the year prior.

We can pretty much take an AP class as long as we didn’t fail the previous class (I.E., biology, chemistry, English 10/11).

My school just wants people to flock to AP classes.
