Thank you, Hunt.

Getting dressed up for air travel? Are you kidding?

After a good friend of mine was forced to strip down to her undershirt last fall in front of everyone (it was a too small camisole that didn’t even cover her whole midsection), all I think about is ease of getting through security without embarrassment. Be careful not to look too layered, unless you want those lower layers exposed.

you can ask to be patted or wanded instead of stripping.

Airport security info suggests slip on shoes- but having to retie shoelaces in order to wear comfortable travel shoes is a small detail. Air travel attire should aim for comfort and ease in travel, not high fashion. High heels should be outlawed in ALL cases- being comfortable trumps looking “good” (good being an arguable point)- there are reasons men don’t wear them. Likewise pants versus skirts in most weather, especially for travel. Being “feminine” does not have to mean dressing to catch a man- the reason fashions exist for women. I feel sorry for people in the business world- that seems too caught up in superficial appearances.

Actually women dress for each other, believe it or not. Men could careless, especially once they are married.

Chuckledoodle,

I am not mad at ya. I dress for life in a way that helps me to survive and I strive to keep things simple. I guess working at WTC during the bombing and a plane hitting the building, having been evacuated off trains and walking through tunnels, surviving a fire in my home and dealing with kids in day high school will do those things to you. If I am at work, I always have what I need on my person (some money, cellphone & house keys), so I do not have to go back in the building to retrieve anything.

However, like others have mentioned I live my life in clean clothes, comportable shoes (I have had some great shoes die a painful death along with a few twisted ankles on NYC streets) and it works for me. Even going out for the evening or special occassions, I go walk in wearing a pair of heels, but there are always pair of flats in my bag  .

I bet you were a good Girl Scout, Sybbie! Or, if you weren’t a Scout, you would have been a really good one!

Yes, if there’s time. I remember dashing through the airport in Paris, holding my pants up with one hand because I didn’t have time to put my belt back on. Fortunately, I managed to avoid causing an international incident.
