April ACT Official Reading Thread

@mab, that’s what I got.

I don’t recall that exact question, but it sounds right. What were the other choices?

vacation with father and brother was another choice

also another question:

something like what was the main point of the classification essay?

i know the consensus is that “carving up” meant to “analyze”

but did anyone put “gouge” because it ‘cuts up’ stuff through classifications?

also, i didn’t have time to read the last question, #40.
I randomly guess “g” i think.

does anyone know the letter answer for the very last question?

@zlz I put analyze for that one andddd I don’t remember the last question.

do u guys remember what the answer choices were for the carved up one? I dont think analyze was the right answer i think in the passage it stated that carving it up was more like generalizing

i narrowed it down to analyze and gouge. gouge can mean to cut up, so i interpreted that as cutting up species by classifications.

The answer was definitely not gouge. It was analyze, I’m 100% sure.

Mabs I put that the story was about the author meeting the musician as my choice.

The main point of the classification essay… I sort of remember what I put, if you could remind me of the choices…

Main purpose of the passage i put something like the author looking back on an event. Also did anyone said that the author when he listened tto the music was filled with warmth or something along those lines?

UVA: That question was for the section about the guy who had multiple jobs and looked back at when he first met his wife right? That is the right answer, he uses “fondly” as a word describe how he felt about his memory so warmth was the only good choice.

does anyone remember their letter answer for the very last reading question?

For the classification one, I think the main point was to delineate between two classification methods

I remember putting another answer, what were the other choices?

i put to describe different ways of classifying.

I dont think that a few sentences in the last paragraph about how others classify was enough to say that the point was to delineate.

Does anybody know how old the kid was in the Hank Williams one? I skimmed over the passage really quick after reading the question to see if it said it anywhere, but I didn’t catch it. I put 8 though because he acted more like an 8 year than 11 year old imo. There were two other questions I was unsure on, but I can’t remember them.

The kid was 11.
Near the end, it said something to the effect of ‘the music was something an 11 year old who had never experienced heartbreak couldn’t enjoy’

Lol thanks again man. Dang, I was looking mostly at the start of the passage for his age which explains why I couldn’t find it.

A Tip: When the ACT makes you look for a specific low number in the passage, such as 12, it will usually be written out in words (twelve) so that you waste time.
