Are students thru RD given lower priority for housing than those accepted ED?

Yes. NYU ED accepted students have priority and many traditionally have chosen Hayden (most popular). However, some have written that Founders has become a contender for one of the favored dorm choices among incoming freshmen.

The good news is that there should be slightly less demand for Hayden with the opening of Founders in the last 2 years and its favored status among some of the incoming freshmen each year (my guess).

Even prior to Founders’ rise on the list of favored dorms, I read that some RD students do get into Hayden. This is likely due to timing of submitting your housing application/ survey and LUCK. So, if you are a RD accepted student who wants Hayden, I would submit all materials and have your roommate (if chosen by yourself) submit the housing materials at the same time (asap). That hopefully will give you a slight edge against a slightly smaller pool of applicants interested only in Hayden as first choice (with the Founders contingent that favor that dorm). Of course, you should be prepared to get a choice farther down your list of choices.

As noted previously by quite a few people, generally people seem to adjust and like the dorm they are in.
