Do they have a full merit for international? They don’t say they meet need.
They do say this:
Yes, students with an F-1 visa are generally permitted to work part-time on the premises of the institution that issued their currently valid I-20 form while they are attending that institution and maintaining their F-1 status. F-1 students are permitted to work part-time for a maximum of 20 hours weekly. Contact ISSS at isss@miami.edu for more information.
The issue i see is outside of Stamps, the scholarships are full tuition. It’s probably $20K plus to stay in the area. And actually only one is for International.
I think you can find better schools. I wouldn’t bother.
Are you finished with your second draft of Amherst specific essays?
Have you corrected your Applications based on what you noticed from the first you sent?
At this point focus on this.
For Kalamazoo: If you subtract Pell from the aid (or add it back to the net cost), is the result affordable?
When you review a university, start with the International Freshman Admission page. Check the requirements to make sure they don’t require WES.
Then review the regular freshman scholarships page and check there’s no “must be a US citizen or permanent resident” clause. Then check whether they cover full tuition or more, and the criteria.
You need to look EITHER at national LACs located in the Rust Belt/Midwest and South OR “directionals” that offer full tuition scholarships (NOT Stamps, which is the High School equivalent of the McArthur “Genius” Grant.)
Some colleges have better budgets for internationals but not all have EA.
The list of those with scholarships is constantly changing.
Muhlenberg, St Lawrence, Knox, Elmhurst, Carroll Montana???
Coastal Carolina, University Texas San Antonio, Longwood? I already mentioned U Illinois Springfield or SIU Carbondale.
Keep in mind that you can only apply ONCE to the selective private colleges so your application needs to be as good as can be. At the very least, perhaps leave some colleges for November 15, December 1, and January deadlines so you can really go over your essays for Amherst, Cornell Cals…
Because it assumed you were a U.S. citizen. Many net price calculators are set up this way. Did Kalamazoo ask if you were an international student…and did you answer NO…correctly?
This is one reason why the NPCs can be inaccurate for international students.
Why? Have you not learned by now, that a number of these schools just don’t have the money? Federal funds are diminished. It’s a different time in our country. Do you have $99K per year? You are grasping and desperation does not necessarily equate to good results.
I know you still want prestige, but there are so many applicants to this school, with exceptional records, test scores, AND MONEY. It’s known as the “University of Spoiled Children.”
You are reading between the lines and assuming a full ride. Their paperwork is very involved. They don’t want poorly written, rushed applications.
USC is very picky about how much they give and to whom. Their idea is to make money, not necessarily to give it out. Your scores are not above 1540+. For instance: USC loves National Merit Winners. They will provide funding for those top students, but they don’t necessarily promise to meet full costs. Our son missed one question on the SATs. He won National Merit in our state. He was offered tuition. Nothing else. Room & Board and other fees were not included but were expensive. At the time, those costs would have been about $45K per year. He had multiple choices in other schools that did fully fund him. Tuition is $72K, R&B are $20K. Why are you assuming you will have the funds?
“Although international students are not eligible to receive federal or USC need-based financial aid, they may be awarded merit scholarships and/or other departmental awards.
Is the WES fee one time or by school ? I don’t know how much it is but if it’s one time, it might be smart to pay it. You’re eliminating the schools most likely to hit your #.
I have submitted the part one of my application (without essays) of Amherst. in coalition app but I have done a blunder mistake, I have not chosen to opt in my sat score (1430).
I am getting a second thought because my 9th grade marks aren’t good and my 11th grade boards are virtually of no value.
I read the instructions as you pay for the review (document by document) which is either $100 or $170, and then you pay to have it sent to college for about $8 each.
That might not be correct, but that’s how I read it.
Much the same as the way SATs were done, that you pay for the test, and then you pay for them to be sent to colleges. People were paying for multiple results to be sent to multiple colleges, but then the colleges allowed applicants to self report and only required the official score to be sent to the final college.
You might check with the colleges to see if they only require the WES after acceptance or if you can send them a copy of the report until actual acceptance (you get one copy and send it to colleges, and then when you are accepted you pay to have the official copy to the final college).
