A car is difficult to hide.
A gun should be kept hidden & locked up unless it is actually being used.
Too many stolen weapons are not even reported, why is that?

bl4ke360, what is your opinion on guns that “go off” in people’s purses or toddlers’ hands because they were left unsecured? Do you think their owners should be held responsible if anyone is hurt?

Those points are completely irrelevant to what you said before. The difficulty of hiding an item doesn’t make any difference whether stealing it is a crime. Makes absolutely no sense.

The same thing that happens to someone who’s child gets into their car and crashes it, or who opens the knife drawer and accidentally stabs themself. We don’t need an inconsistency in the laws just because you hate guns.

The purpose of a car is transportation. The purpose of a kitchen knife is to aid in cooking.

The purpose of a gun is to kill. People who own them “for protection” (as well as hunting or shooting at ranges) are well aware of that fact.

Also, I don’t “hate guns,” and I’m a little tired of the pro-gun crowd using that line over and over. I live in a big hunting state. I am glad the police have guns. I don’t have a problem with people keeping them in their houses for protection if they are responsible. I find it really odd that the proud gun-owners don’t equally condemn those who are too stupid to keep them safely in their homes. But this is what it has come to.

As for the large capacity clip/magazine - what purpose does it hold if the gun is not used for killing (and that would include hunting too). Hunters generally don’t want to obliterate a deer with dozens of bullets, it would be too dangerous to other hunters in the area and it would obliterate the trophy they might want and the meat they might want.

So what is the purpose? If it’s only to be used at firing ranges then the purpose is entertainment. I can understand that, in principle, but when you weigh it against the public health concerns of one of these devastating machines being used against humans - as they have, over and over again - entertainment doesn’t seem that important.

Maybe they could be kept only at firing ranges. I’m actually a little bit afraid after typing that. Don’t scream at me, I’m not coming for anyone’s guns, just trying to find a possible solution.

Irresponsible idiot + guns = senseless death.

<a href=“Pregnant woman dies after accidentally being shot in head”>http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/pregnant-woman-dies-after-accidentally-being-shot-in-head/2190285

My theory on that one is that the new husband wanted out and he and his friend concocted this “accident.” (I’ve probably read too many mysteries…)

I see this argument by literally every single one of you anti-gunners, and it is as nonsensical as you could possibly get. Knives were originally designed to kill, along with bows and arrows, crossbows, spears, etc. I don’t see you lumping those items in with guns. The “intended purpose” is decided by the owner of the tool, not the designer.

Two can play that game:

That means 99.99% of gun owners are incorrectly using their magazines, and should start killing people according to you. Would that make you feel better?

Honey- get some friends and go to the beach!
Why are you wasting your summer?

Yeah, no kidding. Or take some summer school classes in logic or forensics (either kind).

“That means 99.99% of gun owners are incorrectly using their magazines, and should start killing people according to you. Would that make you feel better?”

You forgot to read the rest. I said IF it’s not used for killing than it must be used for ENTERTAINMENT. What else is there? The pure joy that the gun enthusiast may get for firing multiple rounds at will does not, to me, justify the danger to the public at large. Please be a bit more logical. I know you feel threatened by this discussion, but we’re only trying to come to some methods that would prevent these mass killings.

248 – And cars? You didn’t mention them. Do you maintain that their intended purpose is to kill?

If 99.99% of gun owners only ever intend to use their weapons for harmless entertainment, why would they have any problem with limits on the number of rounds they can shoot in a few minutes? Wouldn’t it still be fun even if they have to reload a little more often? Or, taking it to the logical conclusion, why not restrict gun manufacture to those weapons that were available when the constitution was written, i.e., muskets and long guns? Wouldn’t those be fun too?

This is exactly the problem with your “side” of the debate. You think it is all a game. And then you bring up absurd and unrelated examples of people doing stupid things as a way of (in your mind) supporting your illogical positions.

Here’s another guy that seems to think this is all a game, and that the safety of others is of no matter whatsoever. <a href=“Arizona man arrested in Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport after open-carry 'protest' terrifies travelers”>Arizona man arrested in Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport after open-carry 'protest' terrifies travelers;

There’s a new term for this kind of idiot–“ammosexual.” Sadly, it fits.

Don’t you get it, that’s the reason why they shouldn’t be limited. If responsible gun owners aren’t harming anyone, there’s no reason for them to be penalized because of what criminals do. How about instead of going after inanimate objects, you go after the criminals who use them for bad intentions. Me going to a gun range has no affect on you at all so why don’t you stop trying to make laws that take away my rights that don’t do anything to stop gun violence.

That depends on the car, some are intended to race, some are intended to transport items, etc, just like some knives are intended to cut fruit, and some are intended to kill people. With your logic we should be banning combat knives and daggers since they were “intended to kill”. How ridiculous, I never would have thought a supposedly college educated forum would be so devoid of basic logic.

I happen to be an engineering intern at a company who’s products are inside your own house, so you can take your own advice thanks. I do “logic” 10 hours a day.
