), and my father was a serious numismatist. One of my sons was unlucky enough to inherit those genes. I made a huge mistake getting him started on the state quarters. At the beginning, Hallmark issued mounted uncirculated proofs of each quarter from each mint. So I’d get them throughout the year as a gift for his birthday. For some reason, Hallmark stopped issuing them–or they just weren’t available in my area; so the collection died on the vine some years ago. This thread reminded me: I really should check eBay…</p>
<p>Yes, we collected the quarters. They were fun to spot, particularly on the PA Turnpike when you had a greater chance of getting an out-of-state one when you got change after paying your toll. Fun!</p>
