Petite pear here with pancake booty and huge thighs and calves. NYDJ, Gloria Vanderbilt, Jag, Style & Co. at Macy’s, and Blue Star have worked for me. Depends on the cut, and I check the percentage of spandex. My Jag pull-ons had to be taken in at the waist so they didn’t gap so much and I do NOT recommend this type of style for pears – unless you like to shimmy every time you pull on your pants. Pants and jeans are a tough fit, and we just have to resign ourselves to a long and tiring search. Some things are easily altered like the length and waist, but a proper rise is crucial as well as pockets that don’t pucker. Different washes and country of manufacture can alter a fit, too.

FWIW, I’ve also noticed that really expensive slacks seem to hang the best. You get what you pay for in that respect. I’ve never tried on premium denim; most aren’t made in Petite sizes and I can’t stomach paying over $200 to make my butt look great since I never see it anyway.

Good luck. And nearly all women have trouble finding good fitting pants unless/until they stumble upon a brand and cut that works. . .and then the manufacturer changes it!

Interesting too that in most of the photos the “before” has tucked in shirt, “after” mostly does not. I mostly prefer NOT to tuck. (if that’s the only top layer - if I have another layer over the shirt - like a sweater of some sort, I’ll SOMETIMES tuck.

abasket, the “before” photos were done with tucked in shirts to show the body shapes. I noticed that the “after” jeans are darker denim with higher waist (can’t see the waistbands, but I bet they are wider).

Yup, abasket, you are absolutely correct. Unless one has a flawless tummy, which 99.9% of us don’t. Lots can be done without resorting to Spanx.

BB, I keep looking at the before and after picture of Linda in your link. I don’t see how the after photo can be accurate unless she also lost 20 pounds.

The low rise is so unflattering to most figure types, young and old.

Any suggestions for my body type? I am 5’5" 120 lbs and shaped like a “ruler.” No waist and no hips. Anything that fits in the waist bags terribly in the hips. Below the waist works best for me but I do have enough middle aged spread that the low waist style causes bulging in the mid-section. I actually look great in yoga pants, but I do need more professional pants to wear.

I gave up threw out every pair of jeans I owned this summer. I feel so uncomfortable in them no matter if they look ok to others.
I am 5’2.5 at 129-136 lbs. I am a true Pear. I imagine I can out hike most, as all of my strength is in my legs, and I am very active for my age.

I am down to 3 pair of light weight and 1 heavy ( and one on order) of Eileen Fisher pants. They are comfortable and expensive(!). That said they wear and wear washing after washing. I hope to get through the entire winter with only 2 pairs (one from last winter which the only thing I wore for months and looks brand new).

I am not into name brands at all but I prefer to have 1-2 pairs that last and fit and are comfortable.
So I actually have only 4 pants in my entire closte and 3 are summer weight.

I take PP or PS.

Sorry GT-- no ruler advice here. Well, you might do well with Eileen F also, as their pants conform to the body.

FlyMeToTheMoon, I look much much better in low rise pants. Whenever I put on a pair of higher waisted pants I look like I’ve gained 10 pounds. It explains why I felt fat in the 80s and 90s.

I’m shaped like GTalum. I don’t have any suggestions for work pants, because I’ve had no success there either and luckily don’t have an office job. I do like to have some nice pants in the closet, so I’m open to suggestions. I tend to wear my shirts over as opposed to tucked in, so that addresses some of the muffin-top issue.

The Pixie pants from J Crew that @Gourmetmom reccommended are now on sale with code SHOPNOW, 25% off. From what I hear from my daughter, these are now her “go to” pants that can be worn with anything, dressed up or down.

Re Eileen fisher pants. Suggestions on how you wash them? I love them but am afraid of laundering them. Thought maybe I would put in large net bag for delicates?

I use woolight for dark clothes, turn them inside out, wash on a delicate cyle with low spin. I hang them to dry. They can look a little wrinkled hanging but when I put them on they are fine. A bag would work too but I still would turn them inside out. I wash them only with my other EF pants and black tees
