Article discouraged me from applying

<p>Don’t take every word I say to heart (I applied to Rice ED just a few weeks ago…) and I haven’t had the chance to visit Rice yet</p>

<p>You know those schools that are just known across the US for being big party schools or having the most gorgeous guys and girls? Well, it’s not a shocker that no one says “I want to go to Rice…I heard the guys/gals there are HOT and the parties are ridiculous!”
People apply and really want admission to Rice mainly for the excellent education and prestigious professors. </p>

<p>So if dating/social scene is really that important to you…Rice may not be the best for you. But honestly, I would still apply…who knows?<br>

  1. The author was exaggerating a bit to make an interesting column
  2. He’s shallow.
  3. For all you know, there may be a storm of attractive people admitted this year.</p>

<p>Haha, I thought that column had died. Don’t take Misha seriously. There is plenty of casual sex to be had at Rice.</p>

<p>Mom here - I don’t know, nor do I want to know what goes on between consenting young adults on Rice campus :wink: - but I do know that the campus is full of bright, interesting, attractive, motivated, personable young people, and that both my kids had/have short and long-term relationships with lovely and attractive individuals. Newspaper opinion articles represent one person’s opinion, and often that person is trying to take an extreme enough point-of-view to elicit some reactions.</p>

<p>This guy graduated from Jones, and from what i hear…Jones blow goats.</p>

<p>Also, visit the campus. Don’t base your choice of school on an informal article.</p>

<p>Dixiesilverjojo is right. The guy who wrote that article was working hard to make a point (and be funny). Even if you give the author the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s really how he feels, that’s all it is, how he feels. It’s unlikely it’s universal. How could Rice admissions possibly be screening people for this behavior? It just doesn’t make sense. I agree with everyone here who said you should visit, talk to current students and get a feel for Rice as it really is.</p>

<p>If you’re going to Rice for sex, you definitely are applying to the wrong school for the wrong reasons. Sigh. </p>

<p>The generalization of that article makes me sign and facepalm. It’s obvious that every damn girl isn’t asexual. Know what to do and how to act, and you will get laid regardless of location.</p>
