Hi.

Both are correct. Studio is at HC and Theater, Dance and Art history are at BMC. I think your daughter is applying at a very good time for the arts in the Bi-Co. BMC’s art history has always been very strong and HC’s studio arts program, although small, is also very strong as well.

BMC just finished major renovations to Goodhart which is the home of the theater department. From what I’ve read, it’s going to be a great venue for performance and the study of theater. HC just renovated its gallery space to allow more prominent exhibits to be on campus.

Cross-majoring is a non-issue. The Bi-Co is really like north/south ends of a large university campus. Buses run 2x an hour with sweeper vans following buses for straggling students. [Blue Bus (Bi-Co) - Bryn Mawr Transportation](http://www.brynmawr.edu/transportation/bico.shtml) The meal plan is the same although the food is somehow a little better at BMC. Both campuses are small so she will feel home on both. I think the Bi-College relationship is really mentally healthy. She will get the same small LAC attention on HC’s campus and BMC’s campus with faculty and students but at the same time can have the academic opportunities of a school of 2500 students. Having the chance on a regular basis to get off one campus and visit another is really a great thing for one’s sanity.

I posted a link of HC alumni who cross-majored at BMC a few years ago and it included, at the time, a Russian major who was dean of faculty at Williams, the head of Johns Hopkins Biomedical research program (russian at BMC and chemistry HC) and the head of the American Archeology Institute. http://www.penn.museum/press-releases/95-dr-c-brian-rose-penn-museums-mediterranean-section-curator-becomes-new-president-of-the-archaeological-institue-of-america.html So, cross-majoring at BMC has been done before and it provides a great education.

There are LACs with stronger performing arts than the Bi-Co… Williams, Wesleyan and Oberlin come to mind. Given the combined resources in the Bi-Co, recent renovations, and also factoring HC’s ideal location close to a major metroplitan center that allows her to get off campus to explore the visual arts as done in the real world and not the ivory tower and also allows artists to regularly visit campus, her experience in the Bi-Co can be excellent as well.

I’ll post some links later this weekend…
