Arts cuts

Into the Woods is a fantastic play!

Theater is a means of entertainment and it is a passion for many people. Just like sports.

^ The comments you make sometimes are just really irritating.

omg
i cant
fantasyvesperia will you marry meo

If you’re going to ask questions like that, then what is the point of anything in life?

Theater is based on acting and performance. Without actors and performers there would be no good television shows, no blue man group, no broadway. Last time I checked, these were all important in people’s lives. We need entertainment.

Also, some people get to express their gifts and talents through theater and the arts. That’s how some people live their lives. That’s all that matters.

Then I don’t understand your question

I don’t know how to make my answers any better.

Seems to me like you didn’t want answers.

Why can you see the importance of that, but not see the importance of acting.

Art gratia artis, art for art’s sake. You shouldn’t have to defend art, it just is. It’s part of the human experience.

If you have to ask what the point is of seeing an actor on the stage, then clearly you haven’t seen a play. I mean a good play. The connection is so real, it’s so personal. It’s powerful to see an actor bring what was words on a page to life.

Just like music (unless you’re going to ask what the point of that is, too), it is a way for us to express ourselves. To show others how we can be creative, to bring meaning to important things in life.

And as for your secondary question about sports, I could go into a whole psychological explanation. But the short answer is simply that humans like to be competitive (the athletes) and they crave entertainment (the audience).

Weaponcaptain27, you are getting trolled SO hard right now xD

@Penguinone I really don’t have to explain myself to you. I’m just stating the truth.

I’ve been involved in the arts pretty much all of my life, and I just can’t stand the fact that schools are cutting the programs. To me, music, theatre, and all arts are the last resources we have to really be creative, and to be ourselves. I’ve been in our school choir for about 8 years now, been in 20+ plays and musicals, have learned how to play piano and sing, and am going into music education for college. The main thing that I can’t understand (and what really irritates me) is the constant funding to a sports program (which ours is not very good) and barely anything to our arts program. We have to keep putting up fundraisers, special music nights, or anything to just get by, while the sports programs don’t do a thing, get tons of money, and still suck. I just think it would be beneficial to put money into something that will not disappoint year after year… But, that’s my opinion. :)

Our school is such a sports-oriented school that they bought the football team all new crap that they didn’t need, yet they cut from art and the foreign language department (we went from having six languages to three).

@Shadowmist, I feel your pain.
