If you’re not “amazing”, why not talk it up at an interview, rather than sending in a tape? A tape will make it seem like you’re auditioning. Although it wouldn’t hurt you, submitting the tape will make it appear as if you think you’re “amazing”, and if you’re not, well…

Use it in an interview to paint a picture of yourself, to let them know who you are, to shine above somebody who has your stats but is not in vocal ensembles. Display it as an interest, something that makes you you, and the best place to do this is in an interview. Even better if you can throw it in after the interviewer says “I see you got an 800 on your math SAT. Nice, very nice.”

IMO, those who love and participate the arts, but who are not “amazing”, have a great opportunity to show themselves in a beautiful light, without the stress of “auditioning”. This is an asset, if you present it in the right way.
