Ask a Brown Student

Seeing as I’ll be lugging two HUGE bags from the airport… do you think the walk is doable?

Two huge bags = $4 cab ride from the station that’ll be worth every penny.

I think people really don’t realize this so let me put it in caps.

WALKING FROM DOWNTOWN TO BROWN MEANS YOU WILL CLIMB A HILL THAT IS VERY TALL AND STEEP ;0

I pity the the person carrying bags from Kennedy. You could take the trolley up, but then you’re lugging stuff again. Get a cab!

Okay - recap:

Boston Logan -> Peter Pan bus to Kennedy station -> cab?
Should cabs be called or will there be some waiting?

I’m pretty sure it’s cheaper to take the T from Logan to South Station, and the commuter rail from South Station to Providence. Just FYI.

It’s not about the price, it’s about convenience. I can’t carry two immigration bags onto a subway.

Is it possible (at a reasonable price) to fly into Providence? Brown provides shuttles to/from the Providence airport at the beginning and end of semesters.

With Southwest I can fly home across the nation round-trip $260 and fly into the Providence airport. Quite easy and quite affordable.

GoJumbos2013

That is such an ignorant load you were spoonfed. Just cause some idiot likes to say it doesn’t make it true. First, there are 6,000 undergrads from every part of the country, so how likely it is they are all zombies on the same page?

I really doubt my daughter even talks about liberal v. conservative to most people she knows. How often does one do that? I’m sure her close friends may have some discussion, and it’s possible you would gravitate away from people who offend you with their views. But she is from San Francisco, so tolerence for most types is typical from people from there and she might not notice a more liberal bias. Most colleges do have a liberal slant as that is typical of young people, however, having visited Brown many times, I don’t see it as much different from any other college community.

Idk if anyone is interested but they are planning to extend the commuter rail to Boston all the way to Warwick at the airport.

Also @ cafesimone—no no, you take the Silver Line from Logan, which is a bus, and which you can definitely handle two bags with, to South Station. You then take the commuter rail train, where there is plenttyyyy of space for your bags, from South Station to the Providence train station. Then you pay $4 for a cab ride from the train station to your dorm.

Subways(and the silver line and the commuter rail) in Boston really aren’t that crowded…you have plenty of space for baggage—it will probably be more comfortable than a bus and cheaper. Taking a bus from Boston to Providence is a waste of money and less comfortable imo.

So Logan—>South Station via Silver Line (which is actually a bus)
and South Station –> Providence Train Station
is the way to go.

Also…I just realized that was a suggestion from jerzgrlmom—I don’t believe international flights fly into Providence.

Ooo. That would be nice for those who are flying. Thought judging by the speed of roadwork in Providence, it’ll be 12 years before that happens.

One flight to and from Canada each day make TF Green International.

Actually, they started construction in February; it is scheduled to be completed sometime in 2010.

"The project is called the Warwick Intermodal Facility, and it is going up some 17 years after it was first proposed.

Inflation and project expansion have ballooned the cost from $25 million to $267 million."

LOL very RI. Looks the station will have fancy stuff like photovoltaic glass though.

[Finally, work on a commuter rail station at T.F.
Justbreathe - how long does your proposed plan take?? I’m considering the bus because I wouldn’t have to transfer twice, but it does seem more comfortable. I love trains.

Jerzgirlmom - I do have the option to fly into Providence. Where can I find out more about the shuttles??

Wow. RI strikes again.

Well I assumed this was a new plan, but since it appears the necessary 17-year waiting period + pay-offs have already been made. Sweet.

Construction will finish 2012.

cafesimone - airport limousine website. $11 I think? only runs once per hour though. brown runs a shuttle but idk where to find that info, that may be modest’s deptartment

hows the food at brown…

im sure that’s been answered before about 100 times but it varies from bad to good depending on the dish and where you’re eating

mhmmm. didn’t search through all 12 pages. thanks for the response.
