Do you know when freshman would be notified if they were chosen for the Price Waterhouse Cooper honors program?

According to my roommate you would have been notified when you were accepted into the school. You can also get in sophomore year.

The PwC honors students were already notified. I believe about 35 people were chosen this year.

which dorm is it that is furthest away from academic buildings? I heard it was like dickinson or newing.
And, if i dont choose the chemically-free one, does that usually mean that the dorms will be more quieter?
How are your experiences with the drinking/drugs/parties?

newing is probably furthest from academic buildings.
“chem-free” is usually a floor in a dorm, not an entire dorm.

A chem free floor will usually be quieter. I lived on a chem free floor as a freshman (last year, in Smith) and no longer live on a chem free floor, I honestly don’t notice a difference.

On the survey for housing registration, theres Special Interest Learning Communities and Special Interest Housing. What are they?

O, and should I pick the learning communities even tho I dont think i’m giong to be majoring in law? Its for CIW.
(but i heard learning communities were cancelled due to budget cuts? why are they asking this on the housing registration survey?)

learning communities have been canceled for the fall '09 semester. I do not know why they are on the housing form.

I heard there was a Best Buy opening up in the area- anyone have information about this?

There’s a Best Buy under construction on Vestal Parkway at the corner of Jensen Road, not far from campus. Right now, it’s not much more than a big hole in the ground. I don’t know when the store is scheduled to open.

My S just sent in his deposit and will be entering in the Fall. Will he get housing information in the mail or do we wait until summer orientation?

You should receieve housing information soon. If he has his pin number and B-Number he can go to bubrain.binghamton.edu to set up his email and activate it. Once that is done he should be eligible to register for housing by going to reslife.binghamton.edu. During summer orientation he will have the opportunity to register for his classes.

hey, what bank companies are near the university? I want to get a debit card here and if i go to bing, i need to have the same company to use it.

i may be wrong… i have no idea how debit cards work.

There’s an M&T bank in the student union, right?

The bank affiliated with the University that is on campus is M&T Bank. We have an actual branch in the new union as well as ATM machines located around campus. In the nearby area though you do have other banks. Near me in University Plaza there is an HSBC. A debit card basically is like a giftcard. There is a certain amount of money on it and when you spend things it takes it right off the card. There is no bill for later so you have to keep track of how much you spend and how much you have left.

Usually, banks will let you make transactions at ATM’s using debit cards from another bank. You don’t have to have an account and debit card with the bank whose ATM you use.

However, when you use another bank’s ATM, a fee is usually charged. Your bank, the other bank, or both may charge a fee. Usually, this adds up to between $1 and $5 per transaction. It can save you money to have an account with the banks whose ATM’s you use most often.

I talked to a counselor at Binghamton this week and she said that they are just changing the format of learning communities, not cancelling them. So now I’m confused…

pinkshark,

That is correct. The learning communities are not going to be the same as they were when I was in them as a freshman (2 years ago). The only communties that will have a learning community in them will be Dickinson, CIW and Hinman. Please go to reslife.binghamton.edu, click on future students and then once on that page, click on whichever link on the far right hand side to see the courses being offered.

Jana

What exactly is a learning community?
