Dorm list? Like the dorms that you’ll be living in? Check ithaca.edu/reslife

If you are talking about a shopping list you do get something in the mail but I don’t exactly remember when that happens. I want to say either in June or July. You’ll get information on what can/can’t be brought to Ithaca, a checklist, and some other information. I think the myIthaca thing has some info too.

The weather in Ithaca is something that will be different than what you have ever experienced. The weather is sporadic and insane. The term most used for it is ‘Ithacating’ when you experience three different types of weather in one day. Sometimes it will be raining when you wake up, by the time you go to lunch it will be sunny, and then by the time its dinner there is probably fog all over the place.

Be prepared for everything. The fall can be really nice but it will probably on last until November. From around November to maybe April the weather is going to be *. It will snow at random times and just be cold and cloudy outside. Snow will seem to be on the ground all the *ing time. But that is Ithaca.

The Winter can be good and bad. It was pretty brutal this year with it being -30 on the first day of classes for the spring semester. Once in awhile a nice day will come out. In reality the weather is what you make of it. No teacher is going to take the excuse that you can’t come to class because its cold.

If you don’t like the idea of clouds, rain, or snow at the most random times don’t come here.

I have two friends in the Honors Program so I’ll give you what they have told me and what I have sort of observed.

As entering freshmen you will be asked to apply to the Honors program. They will look at test scores, transcript and then I think you write a couple essays. I don’t know what they judge on but I think if you show a good academic perspective you’ll get accept.

If you do get into Honors you have to understand that it is a minor so it will take up parts of your schedule. You have to take 6 courses to fulfill an Honors minor. I know a lot of people who don’t know if they want to continue with the program. For them they don’t enjoy the Honors courses and would rather use these credits to fulfill another minor.

The one thing about the Honors program is early registration. Honors students are in one of the first groups to register. You can usually get all of the classes you want. For me that is the only advantage of the whole program.

I’m going to Cornell in the fall, but plan on taking a calc course at Ithaca college because my other classes will conflict with my schedule. How big are the classes and the rigor of calc?

Hey so i was wondering if there are certain classes that Ithaca college freshman HAVE to take? I’m taking a course over the summer for college credit and I would like to receive credits for a course I’d have to take at IC. Also, how is IC with AP classes from high school? do they give you the course credits? (btw, I was thinking of going as “undecided” first year)

I want to say Calc classes will probably be pretty hard because it is well Calculus. Since most of them meet 4 times a week you are going to want to expect what you would expect in any college course. The size of them varies but my guess is 30 would be the maximum.

First, undeclared is not an option at IC. Within H&S there is the Exploratory program where you take a wide variety of classes to figure out what you want to major in. There are no required classes that all freshmen take. You’ll talk to your orientation advisor and will be assigned a couple classes depending on your major and you get to pick others.

You will have to send the transcript of the college course you are taking and the registrar will figure out if you get credit for a course at IC.

I don’t know anyone who purchased the bedding that IC recommends. You can definitely find deals cheaper at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Wal-Mart.

So I was wondering what the chances of getting accepted into Ithaca would be for a student with my sort of transcript.
3.6 unweighted GPA, 4.3 weighted GPA
Ranked 19 out of 560 students (not that big of an accomplishment if you know my school), so top 10%
Took SATs twice, first time got 630 verbal, 600 math, 640 writing. Second time got 610 verbal, 640 math and 690 writing.
I’m an editor for the yearbook, but I haven’t really had many extracurriculars other than about twelve hours of community service each year, managing the track team, and occasionally peer tutoring before school.
By the time I graduate, I’ll have taken eight AP courses and a lot of honors classes.
I plan on majoring in a science. Not entirely sure which, though.
Caucasian female.
That’s pretty much it… I was also wondering what my chances of receiving grants and scholarships would be. Any estimate you could give me would be fantastic, of my chances of getting in and receiving grants/financial aid/scholarships.

You’ll probably get accepted but your low UW GPA might hurt you and your lack of ECs. You might get a small scholarship but my stats were near yours and I didn’t get anything. If you are looking for a good school in science that also has good FA Ithaca College is bad place to look.

How is Ithaca’s political science department? Is it good or bad? Also, if I mentioned Ithaca to an employer, would they recognize the name or would it be “just another college”?

I will be dorming in Rowland. It’s separated by wing to a single gender. Can you further explain this? Also, this may seem like a ridiculous question but I will be sharing a bathroom with only girls, correct? Thank you so much for your help.

Ithaca’s Politics department is a thing to think about. I have a lot of friends who are Politics minors (it seems like a good thing to pair with Communications) who enjoy the classes. IC isn’t a big politics type campus but there is a lot of people who are politically active. We aren’t known for being a school for Politics though but beyond a lot of NY/north east Ithaca isn’t that well known.

Rowland like all the other buildings in the Quads is separated by wing to a single gender. Half the floor will be female and half the floor will be male. You’ll only be sharing a bathroom with girls Congrats on being accepted to FYE!

Is FA available for international students? If yes, how large “that package” can be? (sorry, as my family support is really limited then finance is always a big concern for me ) Thanks!

I’m considering applying to IC this fall. There’s a few questions that I have and I cant seem to find the answers on the internet.
I'm not sure if i need to apply early decision or not... I got a 27 on the ACT and a 1630 on the SAT's. Ithaca takes either the ACT or the SAT, correct? I'm ranked 5th in my class of 160 with a high GPA... Since I didn't do to well on the testing will that affect my chances of getting in?
I want to go into the Physical Therapy department... Is anyone currently in the program (or heard things about it)? If so, I just want to know how good of a program it is
My boyfriend goes to Cornell. He's going to be a sophomore this fall. If I am accepted into IC I plan on living on campus the first year (which I believe is required for all freshmen). Second year, I'd like to get an apartment/house with him. Can sophmores live off campus? What is the process in applying for off campus housing? I'm so confused with the whole process... some websites say that you are required to live on campus for the first 3 years and others say that's not true.

Thanks so much to anyone that can help me… I’m so confused!

Can you explain to me how an IC student can take classes at Cornell please? Because that would really be the only advantage I see to going to IC… so I can buddy up to a few Cornell professors, then transfer to Cornell full time.

I never really tried in highschool, or I would just start off at cornell.

hey! I was just wondering which housing you would recommend for freshman year? I’m trying to dive in socially, and was wondering which is better…living in the quads (doing the FYRE) or getting a dorm in the towers where there are more people? which is better for meeting people/making friends?
