precious, when did you apply for housing and when did you try out? i’m a transfer and am still waiting to hear about housing, though i put in my housing app awhile ago.

I applied either at the end of the first week in May or the beginning of the second week of May. I didn’t find out about housing until the last week in August.

you can request reassignment precious10, at the beginning of the school year if things don’t work out.

Here is a good question: How badly does USC shake the students down for money. I have heard horror stories of 40% surcharges on textbooks, $2 for a pack of gum, $ to use their high speed internet, $ to use their cable, $ to breathe their oxygen. Is USC like that?

High speed internet/electricity/cable are all included in your general housing fee. Textbooks are expensive, like at any school, so I recommend getting them used.

I can tell you many things on campus are overpriced. Packaged food is especially outrageous. Single serving snacks that would be $.60 in a vending machines are like $1.00 at Commons. Expect to pay full list price for new textbooks at the bookstore. Used versions may be 75% of list price, even though students are only reimbursed like 25% of the book’s value during book buy-back weeks.

However, utilities in campus housing such as cable, internet and water are all included. I think USC housing is reasonably priced given that so much is included and you aren’t left holding the bag if your roommate decides to leave.

How fast is the internet download speeds? My bro at UCSD gets 800 kbytes/s

And I just thought of 1 other concern I had with USC. In Borat, the kids on the RV were supposedly from USC. Those were the biggest loser brats that I have ever seen. Are people like that the minority there?

their hat said usc but that is University of South Carolina i’m pretty sure because they had the south carolina flag symbol on one of their hats

All the dorms are wired for 10/100 ethernet and I can get 1-2 mbps downloads from most sites.

File sharing and bit torrent programs are not blocked by the school, but there is a 10 gigabyte per 24 hours cap and you can lose account privileges if you continually go over.

For me, the fast connection and generous bandwidth really make 4 years in TrojanHousing tempting.

Don’t download off torrents at college. They can track you down a ton easier while you are at college. Don’t end up costing your parents $5000 more.

So basically you get about 100-200 kbytes/sec download speeds?

I download at about 1.5 mb/s.

If a persons majoring in theatre and journalism , wheres the best place to live on campus that would be close to were most of my clases would be?? Thanks…

Also, does anyone know what the Arts & Humanities Residential College looks like and if its a good place to live?? Thanks

AHRC looks fantastic and probably houses some of the best suites on campus right now. It’s like a new improved version of IRC with more room. If you really want to see what it looks like, there is a Facebook group dedicated to AHRC residents. Pictures are posted.

Has anyone taken a 490? How many hours a week does it take up?

Don’t you get a cease and desist letter before they sue you?

AKC---- Can u post the link to the Arts & Humanities Residential College facebook group, bc i cant seem to find it on facebook. Thanks:)

i only know that through/with torrents (“bits”??), you can download tv shows, movies, etc. and that it takes a long time?!? my friends have all been telling me to do that stuff, but i’m so confused about all that i haven’t really tried. haha, i’ve also heard it isn’t that legit, so it sounds kinda shady, and i don’t even know if they work on macs.

anyways…
