@ihihihi I posted in the Wellesley wait-list forum earlier as someone who got off… I believe they wait listed around 850 students last year and accepted around 120 (15%). This was unusually high.

Went to spring open campus, had fun, but visit to “the hoop” made me cringe a bit with all the nude images of women in the context of lots of info on lgbt activities and “queer open mike night.” I respect everyone’s ethnic, religious, and sexual orientation positions, but don’t want it in my face all the time. Also boards of Hispanics mad about Wellesley making them miss someone’s Quinceaneras? Is Wellesley full of whiners?
@1hardworker Yes, everyone’s agenda will be in your face all the time. And if you are white, be prepared to be judged for your “white privilege” regardless of the circumstances you might’ve overcome to make it to Wellesley. As I’ve said before, many of the most active orgs on campus are ethnic-based. I find this to be quite divisive. There are few organizations or events that bring the Wellesley community together. Some students say that the Boston Marathon is the most exciting event on campus. It is a lot of fun (even in the rain!) but it’s not a Wellesley event.
@1hardworker Everyone’s agenda’s won’t be in your face all the time if you don’t let them be. For example, The Hoop makes me a little uncomfortable as well, so I just don’t go there. Similarly, I avoid events such as queer open mic night. The events are put on for those who are interested. Sure they are advertised well - that doesn’t mean you have to go to them or be pressured to go. Then again, you need to be open to diversity, which is a skill everyone will learn/develop in College no matter where they go.
There are not a lot of large on campus events, but I have had no trouble finding my niche and hanging out with people on a smaller scale and still having tons of fun.
Wellesley is definitely not full of whiners. Sure people complain, but everyone here is fighting their own battles - and more often then not, students either vocalize their opinions in a thought-out manner or just move on.
In case anyone is wondering what “the hoop” is, Cafe Hoop is a student-run, student-owned co-op on the ground floor of the Lulu. It is described as “a relaxed coffeehouse atmosphere, conducive to late-night snacking, talking, and studying.”
I appreciate all the posts here. I have also been posting to a string “Wellesley vs holy cross.” I have to decide between these two now. Any comments here?
Is this still live? I have a few questions.
