What are chances of getting into the dorm I requested? Just out deposit down yesterday

@in0va3: Personally I let my parents handle all the financial stuff, which I realize isn’t the best idea from a personal growth standpoint but whatever. So I don’t know how much “I”'ve taken out in loans.

@Hangman91: Obviously the earlier the better, but it’s pretty hard to tell. If you requested East, chances are you’ll get what you want, with the other areas at a lower (comparatively) success rate per say.

i dont know if u answered this or not
but how exactly are dorms set up
i see east and north stuff like that…
but where would korean asians go to just wondering
or u can just tell me about dorming

I can’t say I’m positive as to what you’re asking.

Here’s a detailed map of the campus (http://www.geog.psu.edu/sites/default/files/extended_color.pdf), which shows where each residence hall area (East, South, Pollock, West, North) are located relative to the rest of the campus buildings. I see a lot of Asians in computer labs to hang out, or just the library I guess.

If you have other questions, try looking through this thread. I know it’s long, but there’s a decent chance your question’s been answered already.

How do 2 + 2 people adapt to the academic and student population change at U - Park? Do they find that U - Park is very demanding compared to their commonwealth campus?

Obviously it’s different for every student dependent upon work ethic, focus, etc. etc., so it’s tough to provide a blanket statement that’s applicable to all branch campus students coming to UP. The handful of people that I know that did it didn’t seem to have a problem with the transition (only complained about finding housing), but there could very well be the same number of people who feel the exact opposite.

Perhaps someone that went through it (or had a child that did) could provide some insight?

For the meal plan, what is the difference between level 2 and level 3? Does the number correlate to how may meals you get per day (as in level 2 gets 2 meals per day each semester, and so on)? What would you suggest? I usually eat 2 meals per day, and I’m planning on eating downtown sometimes as well, not always in dining commons.

Duke26 - Is it worth bringing “Rate my Professor” info/printouts to freshman FTCAP advising or would that be awkward?

@Pens1394: The number level doesn’t correlate to number of meals per day, it’s just a bunch a different levels of “meal points” you can purchase per semester. I would suggest going with level 3 (which is what I got) because it’s near the middle: if you need to add on at the end of the semester (because you’re eating on-campus more than you thought) you can, and if it’s too much they’ll just carry over into the spring semester.

@Theojohn: Yea I’m pretty sure that’d be incredibly awkward. What I’d suggest is to go to FTCAP and get your schedule. Then once the professors are up on [Penn State University - Office of the University Registrar - Schedule of Courses: Course Search](http://schedule.psu.edu/), check on RMP and if there’s a professor with just terrible scores, use a site like Schedulizer (or Penn State’s own version, which can be found in elion) to figure out if you can switch into a different section without the rest of your schedule being messed up.

When do professors go up?

That I’m not sure of. I think it’s done on a rolling basis once they figure everything out with professors, probably early-mid summer if I had to guess.

I have ftcap may 18, and what exactly happens that day? Do you pick and choose your classes/ schedule? And if you took a language in high school do they still make you take language “101”

If youve taken two years or less of a language they put you in 001, three years 002 and four years 003

Oh yea, whats the foreign language requirement for biology majors? Do we even have to take one?

I’m almost positive bio majors don’t have to take a foreign language at all. I don’t have anything like that on my requirements page for the general bio option (and I’d bet it’s the same for all the options, as far as foreign lang goes). I have this checklist of requirements for the major already because I’m going to be a junior next year. So yeah, you’re probably off the hook!

I think it would be a good idea to view the recommended academic plan for your intended major before going to FITCAP.
