Auto Insurance (Ho hum!)

One company may do a much better job at managing risk. Or place risk costs where the risks actually are. Or not offer service in parts of the country at greater risk or that have had a major catastrophe. Or they may manage the investment of their assets more effectively.

VeryHappy, we also used an agent until several years ago when we switched to Geico. She told us that Chubb is a blue chip company when it comes to home and umbrella policies, but as for auto policies, Geico is just as good. DH recollects that we cut our bill by about a third or so when we made the switch. We do have Chubb for homeowner’s and an umbrella policy. However, you do need to check out that $500 number-something seems off.
Edit: Our current Geico policy costs ~$3,100 annually. That’s with 3 cars and 5 drivers, three of them being under age 25 males. The oldest is not charged for on the policy, since he lives ~750 miles away, but it does cover him fully when he is back east.

Geico here as well. Do make sure that your quote is not just for the minimal requirements in your state. We were at ~$2500 a year for 5 drivers/4 cars with an under 25 year old male. No discount for our college student though because, even though she is across the country, each car has a driver assigned to it.

To Very Happy

Unfortunately, many agents become lazy and not proactive with remarketing and reviewing your insurance needs. Your agent should take the approach to at least review the coverage and make other options available at least once a year. If this is not happening, then they are not earning the commission. The reason you have an agent is to help you with this. Auto insurance is pretty easy to compare online these days. Good luck. It might be that you need a new agent.

When we switched car isurance a couple of years ago, I got some online quotes, but then had the idea to ask the underwriter of our homeowner’s insurance to throw their hat in the ring. Upshot: Got a really great deal by going with the same co for homeowners and auto, through our agent. It beat all of the online comparisons by hundreds of dollars. (The insurance co is Encompass)
