Automatic or merit-based scholarships for Hispanics?

Thank you entomom, I’ve already started browsing over that.

And to answer your questions, mom2collegekids:

Situation: My brother is a HS senior who we have been trying to motivate forever and he’s just now coming around and realizing that it takes hard work to be successful

Stats: Not good. 85 uw gpa. Some honors classes, but no AP/IB. SAT: He got around 500 in every section last spring, but he just took it again a few days ago and thinks he did better this time around. He doesn’t have a lot of EC’s, but he’s played jv/varsity rugby and has done some community service recently. He is also hispanic and has good essays, one of which focuses on his type 2 diabetes.

What state is he in: Maryland.

How much will your parents pay for college or does he need full aid: My parents don’t want to pay too much, but at the same time want to be fair to him (because I attended an expensive private school my first two years in college).

His college list so far is: UMD-CP (my current school), Towson, University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida State and a couple other schools (he wants to go to a big southern public)
