This is TOTALLY NOT the kind of movie I would enjoy. I saw the previews and it did nothing for me…

But we saw it (in IMAX 3D actually, I highly recommend that!)…and it was a blast. Three extremely engaging hours. But more like a very cool ride than a movie really. The movie itself is cheesy hollywood, but it was a lot of fund.

Oh yeah as others saide, if you see it in IMAX, get your tickets online as early as possible…and arrive at least an hour early. That was our experience at least.

The only problem we had with the 3D glasses was they were heavy and started to hurt the bridge of your nose after 2 hours. Otherwise, we really liked it. Very action-packed, stunning visual effects - I wouldn’t mind spending some time on Pandora myself! The script was a little predictable but so are 95% of the other movies that Hollywood puts out. It’s worth seeing it in 3-D. Would see it again.

I really don’t like sci-fi, fantasy or war movies, and I loved Avatar! Yes, it is a retelling of Pochahontas, but it is just beautiful and the story moves right along. Thoroughly enjoyed it, as did H and both teenage Ds. Will probably see it again.

I enjoyed it, and having seen neither Ferngully or Pocahontas, I was probably less bothered by the derivative plot than some. Sure it was predictable. My kids thought the dialog sounded like videogames, but I didn’t think it was any worse than a Star Trek movie. I did think it was gorgeous - loved all the forest scenes.

The quality of the 3-D seems to vary from one cinema to another. So if you’re going to see it, ask around. At the prices they’re charging for tickets, you deserve really good visual effects. Besides, there really isn’t much to Avatar except visual effects. James Cameron could have written the plot on the back of an envelope while sitting through the dull parts of Titanic.

At the AMC theaters at our local mall, you can see any movie for $5 if you don’t mind getting out early. All movies including Avatar (not 3D) before noon are $5. Avatar 3D before noon was $7.50.

Here in NJ, the AMC theatres are showing Avatar in 3 different formats.
The prices are insane. That’s what prompted my family out of bed at 8 am on a Sunday for a 9:30 show…10.00 plus 1.00 for each ticket when purchased online for the 3D IMAX showing.
It WAS like a rollercoaster ride rather than a movie but totally worth the $33 for 3 tickets.

I saw it tonight. I liked the Navi (or whatever their name is) creatures and flying dinosaurs and the special effects of the 3-D with the plants and flowers. But I found it very violent and LOUD. Too long. Really, it’s all about the special effects.
