Awkward office situation

Since there are 7 pages of commentary on this, someone has probably suggested this already–but couldn’t the two of you just take turns buying cream?

I don’t really care for CoffeeMate. Also, it doesn’t do much to cool the coffee.

From your description, it sounds as though you had 1 full container of cream and one that had 1 serving’s worth of cream in it. Is that right?

This situation reminded me of the poem “This is just to say,” by William Carlos Williams, quoted below:

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
They were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

There are also some parodies of the poem at http://www.schmutzie.com/weblog/2009/4/8/this-is-just-to-say.html

During grad school, a friend of mine kept finding that the cheese he had stored in a communal refrigerator had been taken. After a while, he labeled it “lab cheese.” It wasn’t taken afterwards. The “uck!” factor is slightly reduced, relative to post #99.

Here is one of the parodies of “This is just to say” that I really like. It is on topic, speaking very broadly (!) and metaphorically (!!). It is by “erin,” otherwise unidentified, and quoted below:

This is just to say

I have wired
your savings to
a prince in Nigeria

you were probably
saving them for
your retirement

forgive me,
he was so polite
and it was urgent.

funny. someone has been using my half’n’half. i saw her once so of course now i presume it’s her. clearly labeled carton. really, really strange, isn’t it???

reminds me of a cartoon someone showed me where a guy said “how cute, people at work are starting to name their food. I just ate a sandwich named Kevin”.

I have no advice. I’m outta here in a few short weeks so I will just bring my daily portion from home each day till I’m done.

Honesty, if this theft stuff on lunch stolen, I would be bringing my little handle on the top, fits 6 soda cans “Little Playmate” with a reusable ice pack and my lunch, storing it under my desk, desk drawer, locker, whatever. Usually when one brings a lunch, it is for convenience, dietary consideration, budget. You count on having that for lunch.

It is manners and boundaries.

My husband and I also take our BlueIce coolers and keep them in our offices. But at times I bring my large water container and I want it refrigerated. Or, if I have to run to the store, I get a spinach salad and store it in the fridge. People don’t like salads too much. They want the dinner leftovers!

From the link @QuantMech posted. Thought it apropos to office related food discussions:

This is just to say
I saw your
passive aggressive note
on the break room microwave.
In spite, I reheated my spaghetti
without covering it.
The tomato sauce spattered like
angry constellations
and it tasted
so much better.

Fridge locker! lol

Actually, I’m surprised that there isn’t a lunch box with some kind of combo lock since “lunch stealing” seems to be a common problem. A lunch box with a simple 4 digit combo might solve a whole bunch of issues.

I rarely use my fridge at work and don’t drink coffee at work. I eat out at lunch. But we have a pot luck every year so that’s where I’m going to use my peppers. Speed up everybody metabolism. I will surely mark the dish very spicy. But I’m out of there after this pot luck as in retirement. So good luck tracing me if the dish was too much for people. Haha.
