<p>Great ideas here so far. I think people just expect women to know what to do with these situations, but it’s harder in the professional realm than with friends/family. There’s always a chance of making things awkward if the gift is too expensive etc. and with some couples, you can’t just give the basics since they don’t need them. It’s also about showing the person that you genuinely do care but maintaining your usual formal relationship; some people are more able to say ‘oh I saw the cutest pink outfit and I had to buy it’ whereas it would sound odd coming from others who are just never like that.</p>
